so, this newly hired HC's first duty is to complicate the draft plan? shit, I hope not because this is real simple. there's nothing that indicates Moore would be the better option so, I would like to think this scenario wouldn't even take place.CWood24 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 11:10 pm Here is another question that needs asked
Say we get our young offensive minded HC like Kubiak or LaFleur like people want.
Them that HC wants Moore over Mendoza because of upside or because they see him as the better option.
Do you draft the QB they want in Moore?
Or
Do you as Spytek draft the best QB right now in Mendoza?

So now that Mendoza is a sure thing, we somehow need to trade up to get Jordyn or Tate and then we can push for a wildcard berth.

Tell me this, would you rather have:DanKD wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 10:41 pm No way in hell am i passing on Mendoza. Hes what this franchise needs
Mendoza (compares to Goff/Matt Ryan)
Or
Moore (compares to CJ Stroud) + 1, 2, or 3 extra first round picks.
The intriguing thing about Moore, is he is only 20, and has potentially more room to grow.
The way I see it, we aren’t going to win the SB next year, so I’m not worried about letting Moore grow for a year.
Now if Mendoza is considered to be the next Brady, then I wouldn’t trade for 5 extra firsts…..

Because we can do better than him and still keep it cheapTrueFan420 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 6:54 pm Why would we move on from AOC? He’s on a rookie scale contract, costs next to nothing and has shown he can start and the team can win a game. He’s nothing special but he’s certain ok to retain as a backup.

no, no he does not, hell he does not even have one of the best win percentages in this century.mranquales wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:16 pm People are acting as if O'Connell didn't just win the game. As if he doesn't have one of the best win percentages in franchise history.

Beating the Chiefs starters by 40 was a huge win yesterdaymranquales wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:16 pm People are acting as if O'Connell didn't just win the game. As if he doesn't have one of the best win percentages in franchise history.

O'Connell's undeniably epic winning record aside, we already know who we're taking at #1, so who are the top players likely to be available at the top of the 2nd and third rounds?

Proctor, Iheanachor, McDonald, one of these three OL should drop to our pick (or I hope one will)Opoponax50 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 4:33 am O'Connell's undeniably epic winning record aside, we already know who we're taking at #1, so who are the top players likely to be available at the top of the 2nd and third rounds?

Assuming that we land Mendoza and AOC will be retained and listed as "QB2" (and I don't think he should be), that would not give me a "warm and fuzzy feeling".
For me, if our QB1 becomes unable to play due to injury, our #2 QB should be able to assume the duties of the position and at a bare minimum, be able to keep the team competitive, and though I like the kid, AOC does not provide that at all.
In other words, there should not be such a huge drop off between our starter vs AOC as our backup QB,

If Moore declares for the NFL, I’m sure that the media and draft pundits will be flip flopping the two right up to the draft to generate clicks. I’m also sure the Raiders will have internal debates as well. I think it’s going to be Mendoza but a lot could change between now and April. Fans just have to stay measured and ignore the smoke as I’m sure there will be anonymous leaks that the Raiders are split or like one guy over the other, etc as that’s simply part of the draft hype process.

It’s amusing at this stage: the fixation on certain players, making up stats and prescient predictions after the fact and passing it off as “I knew it all along.”Attyla wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 3:35 am no, no he does not, hell he does not even have one of the best win percentages in this century.

Oh yes, the cycle of eternal hope will once again hit all fans come spring and this time it just feels different. You are correct it is possible. We say the draft is a crap-shoot, FA isn't all that much better. We do have money, we aren't a top destination, so we'll have to overpay most likely for top players even beyond their already high ask and then a player willing to come here are they coming here for the right reasons?raiders93 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:52 pm This team will look entirely different next year save for 4-5 key guys assuming Maxx has cooled off. We certainly have the resources to make a quick turnaround. We’ve got a shit ton of cap, a franchise QB falling into our lap, and potentially that magical arrangement of a great QB on a rookie deal for 4 years.
The bigger questions are not whether it’s possible for us to make a quick turnaround assuming- it’s moreso whether we can become competent enough to do it. The landscape here looks about as good as you can get to make it happen.
But that's a bit beyond my response of "right now we are the dumpster fire". If we aren't, no one is.
