New coach ………. Again
What’s your thoughts? I prefer young offensive minded with a fresh DC. Kubiak, Cooter, Kafka and pair them with someone like Al Harris as the DC.

Belichick? He never coached in college until he retired from the NFL. I think he may have been the ball boy for Navy when his dad coached there.
Barry Switzer, Jim Harbaugh, Dennis Green, Tom Coughlin.

When the word "retread" is used it should be a bit more descriptive. On one side of the spectrum you have an older coach with grey hair that may have been away from the game for awhile try to make a comeback or you have a young guy (under 50) that may have had 1 poor stint at HC but has a good rep as a coordinator.
Maybe the young "retread" had circumstances out of his control in his one and only stint as HC and is deserving of another chance vs a good coordinator that has had 2 or more poor showings as a HC.
My point being I`m all for a younger enthusiastic coordinator getting his shot at HC and I am open for the same even if one has had 1 fail on their record......again evaluating their circumstances and interviewing to see what was learned with their poor experience prior.
Carry on

Covering the Raiders probably isn't the stuff of dreams for most talented writers unless you are fixated on writing stories about ineptitude, bad QB play, futility, coach hirings, followed by firings, rinse and repeat.

Agreed. I'd like to see Saleh. Bring some toughness back to the Raiders. Not the fake, beat your chest BS, but the kind of team that wins through sheer will when the going gets tough.Xramfan wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 7:27 pm When the word "retread" is used it should be a bit more descriptive. Bring in the Italian Stallion (Cignetti) with our golden boy Mendoza and make it a package deal. He may be the hottest coach out there. 5 years/$25 per guarantee.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Raiders head coach Pete Carroll returning for a second season “would be a major surprise.”
One loss away from clinching the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Raiders seem ready to head into a full rebuild this offseason. Last offseason’s plan to bring in Carroll along with former Seahawks QB Geno Smith failed spectacularly. Carroll was brought in as a stabilizer after Antonio Pierce was fired after just one season, but the Raiders were arguably even more in disarray this year and it’s likely the 74-year-old coach will suffer the same fate. While the decision on Carroll will be made by Mark Davis, expect Raiders minority owner Tom Brady to have input on the next coach once the job presumably becomes available.
I know this upsets a couple posters here but.....oh well, deal with it.

I guess it's possible that Carroll could be retained, but it seems unlikely and I definitely think it would be a bad decision. Hiring him in the first place was meh...... but it could only be to try to be competitive in the short term, which didn't happen. It's clear that it's a rebuild and a 74 year old coach just isn't the right guy for that. I do think we can be competitive quickly with the right coach and assuming that Mendoza is the right QB.
I guess I'm also assuming that we don't f[raiders_icon]ck everything up this weekend and somehow miss out on the first overall pick.

There’s kind of an irony with Pete in that he’s probably done a great job positioning us to actually build something.chucker wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 7:52 am I guess it's possible that Carroll could be retained, but it seems unlikely and I definitely think it would be a bad decision. Normally a rebuild always starts with a brutal first year. Your first offseason is going to be about creating future cap, and your first season is really just securing the highest pick possible. It’s all gonna be hideous… but for a greater cause: the 2nd offseason. A top 3 pick and 120 million in cap space. If that’s stage 1 of a rebuild he’s nailed it.
It seems like the problem with Pete really just comes down to managing expectations. He was either delusional and legitimately surprised with the results… or too good of a salesmen that he just knowingly oversold junk stock.

Nepotism is fairly common in the NFL. Obviously nepotism is not a good thing in really any industry and im not a fan of Brennan either. But this isn’t unique to Pete at all. Grudens son worked here too.Hellbound wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 8:29 am Hiring and keeping his kids in the coaching positions that they were given
