I watched a lot of Oklahoma, Mateer came out strong and when he got the hand injury I think they rushed him back and he never got right. But early on he was considered a Heisman candidate. Against Alabama they schemed him up wrong with way too many rushes but he played well for the most part. Simpson scares me a bit because he was pretty inconsistent but he did outplay Mateer. But college football is hard to judge on that level. Alabama gets the best of the best. Oklahoma gets the best of the midwest.DeathStar24 wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 4:54 am I'm open to any and all ideas. They just leak talent almost everywhere that I just want good players.

When it comes to QB's, if a team feels they have a guy they feel they can win with, go get that player. Of course the caveat being you don't want to give up too much.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:05 am I watched a lot of Oklahoma, Mateer came out strong and when he got the hand injury I think they rushed him back and he never got right. I don't know how much stock you put into where a player should be drafted, so that could be a factor.

Where a player is slotted is really not that big a deal to me. QB's are over drafted and that is because the market dictates it. If we have to take a guy ahead of his slotting, as long as they feel that is their guy you do it so you get your guy. I do think Mateer will stay but he is an interesting player. But then again our resident 6'4 guy will dismiss him simply because of thatDeathStar24 wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:15 am When it comes to QB's, if a team feels they have a guy they feel they can win with, go get that player. I like Mateer, he appears to have a lot of heart and sees the field well. But his throwing motion scares the crap out of me.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:18 am Where a player is slotted is really not that big a deal to me. His wind up and torque are two of his strengths. I would like to see him throw more overhand. He likes to side hand it. But he sets up a nice base with his lower body. Big body guy, not afraid to run and because he is a big guy he can take a hit.Trainnvain wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:45 am I like Mateer, he appears to have a lot of heart and sees the field well. Good points
lower body and uses his back leg to drive the ball
Good arm strength
Wide base and great lower body mechanics
Can and does run with confidence
Good build, body can take a good hit
Bad points
Low release point on many throws
Tends to side arm it too much
Does not lead receivers well when he is flushed
Not ideal height but big enough to be good at the next level
Accuracy issues at times
Grades out as a second rounder to me, if he stays and works on his issues could be graded out as a first next year, and perhaps compete for the Heisman. Right now, that grade and where he is slotted for the draft are not the same thing. He comes out this year, he likely is a low first rounder.

I don't think Mateer is bad at all, he shouldn't have been playing after that hand injuryAttyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 4:49 am Ideal world we trade down and take Mateer and pray we get the Washington St Mateer and not the disappointing Oklahoma Mateer if he declares

He is not bad, he has issue like every QB but some can be corrected. Release point is hard to change but it can be done.Hellbound wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 6:09 am I don't think Mateer is bad at all, he shouldn't have been playing after that hand injury

Yeah, it's that sidearm motion that scares me.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 6:08 am His wind up and torque are two of his strengths. I would like to see him throw more overhand. Then why wouldnt you use that #3 pick on a franchise OT and trade up the 2nd pick to get Mateer? Just what the NYG did to get Dart.

I'll say one thing about Simpson, it's been all him on offense, Alabama has no running game and that's probably what will eventually bite them in the ass in the playoffs.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:05 am I watched a lot of Oklahoma, Mateer came out strong and when he got the hand injury I think they rushed him back and he never got right. it is an option. But the problem with trading up is you give up stuff whereas if you trade down, you gain stuff.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 7:06 am Then why wouldnt you use that #3 pick on a franchise OT and trade up the 2nd pick to get Mateer? Just what the NYG did to get Dart.

It's worth it if you can get the QB in the back end of the 1st round for 5th year option. Shit, trading up in general for QB is worth it if you think hes your guy. I still want Mendoza though (and would trade up for him).Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 7:24 am it is an option. I get that, I was more thinking trading down with someone who has or get's two first rounders. That way you could still pull it off and still get offensive line help that is very good.BoKnows81 wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 7:34 am It's worth it if you can get the QB in the back end of the 1st round for 5th year option.
