The amount of teams on pace for 4 or less wins this season is crazy. I don't recall so many teams in the race for 1st overall pick this late into the season. The Redskins are in the mix for crying out loud. Thank god the Raiders lost to them earlier in the season.

I was just pointing out that we would control our own destiny. Count me with the folks who would lose their minds if we win a meaningless game and drop from 1 to 7 or 8. I am not saying I am right or wrong. However, we have got bitten in the ass far to many times with late season worthless wins. Our opponents do it right (tanking) and I think we have to embrace it. Having a horrible owner and staff is bad enough and is a huge obstacle to overcome. If you do not have a QB, you are dead on arrival.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 6:42 am or, and this is equally possible, we are going to win one of the stretch games and people are going to lose their minds. Both have an equal possibility of happening. Football is a funny thing.

If you are going for the tank, that victory is meaningless. We will never get lower than their SOS which is the first tiebreaker.heavyD wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 7:19 am The amount of teams on pace for 4 or less wins this season is crazy. The problem is the notion of tanking. Players know that if they give subpar effort the lose money. Players know that their talents are finite so every dollar matters. Coaches lose jobs if they tank and there are only so many of those jobs. The only one's who think about tanking are fans. Hell, Pete is not the kind of coach who would ever tolerate the idea.RI RAIDER wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 8:16 am If you are going for the tank, that victory is meaningless. Raiders’ tanking is real, but not in the way we think of “tanking”. It’s the “tank” of belief. The complete emptiness in knowing fully, that what we produce is failure.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 8:36 am The problem is the notion of tanking. From the top of Failson Mountain, turd after turd rolls down. The Raiders are a long-dead corpse, so devoid of life that even being near it will rob good people of their light, and hope, and soul.
Done. Dead. Davis.

I nominate you for poster of the week. This one and 'turdblossom' have seen you rise above.GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 8:55 am Raiders’ tanking is real, but not in the way we think of “tanking”. It’s the “tank” of belief. I would not view it like that. Giving up on a season, which players do do, is not the same as tanking. Tank, the act of intentionally losing, that does not happen, or so extremely rarely that it is almost never seen. The 1919 White Sox tanked the world series. But that was for money during an era when cheating in pro sport was really a thing. Hal Chase is a perfect example. He tanked but it was for money during the reserve clause era. Football has had its share of cheats and such. This is not exactly a "tanking" scenario but rather cheating for personal gain. Tanking, that act requires a real conspiracy. Multiple people making key decisions during games to lose. That would require top coaches and key players. That would require someone like Carroll and Kelly at the very least. And if Kelly were tanking at Carroll's directive, he would still be there. Sadly, we are just not a very good team and fatigue of losing is wearing on the guys and they are phoning it in. Part is talent, part is coaching and a big part is the number of years going through coaches at an alarming rate.GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 8:55 am Raiders’ tanking is real, but not in the way we think of “tanking”. As for Hal Chase? He never got banned from the game. He was widely considered the best first basement during his career. And he was never elected to the HOF despite being so good, particularly defensively. So good in fact that Babe named him the best he had ever seen.

I would almost guarantee that discussions between the brass have already taken place about the future of the franchise. It seems that kids are getting more reps (record be damned). This is valuable time not to be squandered to see exactly what we have going forward. I just want to see kids get playing time. I would think that Spy and Pete already know their futures. Just my guess (and not saying I support it), but I think both come back. I think they move forward without worrying about the conclusion of this season. I think all would indirectly embrace having the #1 pick at this point and do a total reconstruction. If (BIG IF) we get that franchise QB coupled with the good cap shape we will be in for the next couple of years, we can go from zero to hero.

Fortunately the Raiders have been so poorly coached this season that trying to win games has resulted in a 2-11 record.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 8:36 am The problem is the notion of tanking. Where is Ivan since we are discussing tanking. He thought the whole NFL was rigged and teams tanked all the time. In any case, if we win a game, it will be nothing but depressing. If we can get a draft right, with high choices in each round, get the right head coach, and then have Mark Davis go away..... I know, I am asking a lot.

So you want the guy who tried to convince us that the whole league was rigged.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 10:51 am Where is Ivan since we are discussing tanking. And then you want us to purposefully lose out for a pick
And then fire our current disaster coach and pull out the right head coach
And then you want the owner of the team gone
Well, Christmas is around the corner, are you on the nice list or the naughty list?

A man can dream can't he? Well, having Ivan back is not to be included.Attyla wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 11:02 am So you want the guy who tried to convince us that the whole league was rigged.

A true mind f[raiders_icon]ck, would be the refs help us win a game or two, to get a worse draft pick.
