Happy Thanksgiving and Thursday Game Day Discussion
Maybe a bit early but why not, I am expecting you all to be busy tomorrow. Me? Just the wife and I along with our pup.
But Happy Thanksgiving to all of you whether we agree or not. I also know this is a uniquely US holiday. Other countries have versions of this day but in 1863 Abraham Lincoln called for a national day of thanksgiving to be held on the last Thursday of November. The original "Thanksgiving" between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe was in 1633. And no, it is unlikely they served up what we consider the traditional meal with no turkey and most likely sea food on the table. The chances of you having a home fire triples on that day. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving in October. Americans will consume about 80 million pounds of cranberries tomorrow, and most will be from a can of that sick sauce. The rest will eat that equally gross green bean casserole made from cream of mushroom goo. More than likely, you can thank Minnesota for your bird as they produce the most in the US. But we will kill off 46 million birds just for tomorrow. One will survive after being pardoned, a tradition started by George Bush Sr. When we watch our games tomorrow we should reflect that the tradition dates back over 100 years as the first such game was in 1920, well before TVs were in every home. As a matter of fact, the TV was not invented in one sweeping time, but rather over time. The first image of a live person was in 1925 but the TV as your grandfather knew them would not be until 1927. But you can thank your leftovers for spurring the invention of the TV dinner. And finally, when you are out and about for Black Friday, one profession will see its peak in workload and that is the plumber. Yes, your ability to stop up the toilet keeps that profession hopping the next day.
And with that, I do hope those who celebrate have a great day and that we can sit and enjoy some good games.

Deep fat frying two birds. Dry brining one. Injecting a cajun butter marinade in the other.

The first year I fried a turkey it turned out amazing. The second year not so much. Pulled it out of the fryer and it shrunk to about half its original size. We ended up getting Chinese that day like on "A Christmas Story."
The wife put me on double secret probation following that fateful afternoon but they have all turned out well since then.

Tiger turned 1 year old last month. Bichon pups are known for the frenzy where they will run at break neck speed, often running around in a circle inn a large room until they run themselves out, and then seek water or just collapse on the floor. As pups they like to bite but rarely hard but they grow out of it around 3 years old. Ours is a pure bred dog so fur is white as snow, but you can find them with various like color coats. They are intelligent dogs, and can learn around 200 word commands over time that they understand and will react to.
