What’s Cookin' on Gameday 2025

Unread post by Willmark »

In the vein of what's cooking with Scotman and Attyla.

As in years past, the 2025 What’s Cookin for Gameday thread. Post each week what you’re having on Gameday, drinks, appetizers etc,

Last year’s turned up some good stuff, so keep these in mind:

* Each week post what you are having for food, aka main dish.
* Appetizers?
* Desert?
* Each week what are you drinking?
* Include what you're having if you're tailgating.
* If you are ordering, what are you ordering?
* Brunch, you name it.

.....used to grill a steak probably 3 times every 2 weeks, though with all of that stuff being so ridiculously priced now, i'm down to maaaybe once a week, on those. ...anyway, grabbed a strip steak about 5 days ago (12.99 lb) from the place I go to most often, and where choice often has comparable marbling as does the prime not far away in the case, grilled it up about 3 days ago, and that was a best of the year steak for sure.
...anyway, my mother used to make a blueberry rhubarb pie that was as good as here apple pie, which was more round than it was flat. .....she would always say that she used half the sugar a pie recipe called for, and she had the crust down to a science.
....anyway, today? ...no idea, but I have come here before to get them when I have none, so keep rolling them out.....

Keep an eye on the grocery store flyers. Last week a local store had porterhouse for $5.99/LB, this week Vons has sirloin for $6.99.

I also made an apple dump cake yesterday. Easy damn thing but incredible flavor.

in a 9X13 baking dish spray with cooking spray

Bottom layer, chess cookies
next layer, 2 cans of apple pie filling. you can make your own but the canned stuff is just great
next layer, cinnamon/brown sugar cream cheese. 1 container
Next layer, yellow cake mix
Next layer 1 1/2 sticks butter, cut into 1/8th pats and just line them up over the cake mix

Don't mix it, just put that in the oven 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until the top is slightly crisped up.

Let cool some and dig in. This will not be something you cut into squares, just get a big spoon and get some gooey goodness.

This also works with other pie fillings, just pair it up with a cream cheese that makes sense. Cherry filling with berry cheese etc.

Today is leftover pizza day.

For next week I’m eyeing a couple of 4 bone beef rib roasts for the smoker

Rib roast is our traditional Thanksgiving dinner. My family likes meat well done, so I'm not wasting money on a prime rib cut. Depending on the weight, several hours in the oven at 250 degrees, rest for 30 to 60 minutes and then 20 to 30 minutes at 500 degrees. Cut and serve immediately.

it sounds crazy but a butterball turkey breast in the crockpot with chicken stock covering it is pretty damn good. Moist turkey and it does great with leftovers. Nice budget option for those looking for turkey

....or at least, you call it corn, we call it maize.....

...and beer.

Thanksgiving with my family was last night. 1 bird in the oven and 1 on the smoker. It was the only night this week all of us could get together at the same time.

Thursday a few of us will be here and I’ll be smoking up some Dino plate beef ribs.

Happy Thanksgiving
