As a UCLA alum, I get you 100%. On the other hand, with teams changing conferences and rosters changing every year with NIL money, it's hard to give a f[raiders_icon]ck about any particular team or conference. I still enjoy watching the best teams play, I just don't really care who they are anymore.RaiderandBulldog wrote: Sun Aug 31, 2025 9:07 pm As long as we can all agree the sport is better when USC is average at best.

Sorry, friend.RaiderandBulldog wrote: Sun Aug 31, 2025 9:07 pm As long as we can all agree the sport is better when USC is average at best.
A sport needs its icons to be relevant.
A ND-USC clash with stakes has an aura about it that Purdue-Michigan State can't replicate.

Same with Ohio State-SC in the Rose Bowl. But those days are long gone.CarrKnight wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 9:22 am Sorry, friend.

I will forever miss the Rose Bowl being the top PAC-12 and the top Big 10

The Rose Bowl wasn't a PAC 8-10-12 and Big 10 exclusive until 1947 when the conferences signed a contract.
Before that, the Big Ten only appeared twice - the first one in 1902 and then 1921 when Cal defeated Ohio State 28-0 and the embarrassed Big Ten banned bowl game participation for 25 years.
Alabama appeared six times before 1947.
Once again, beloved tradition was actually not the most remembered set-up.

we stressing over something that became a thing after 1947. If it was a thing starting in 1947, that is pretty much a tradition. I would venture to guess that predates all of us posting here.CarrKnight wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 10:48 am The Rose Bowl wasn't a PAC 8-10-12 and Big 10 exclusive until 1947 when the conferences signed a contract.

Not stressing - merely noting the history.Attyla wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 11:10 am we stressing over something that became a thing after 1947. If it was a thing starting in 1947, that is pretty much a tradition. I would venture to guess that predates all of us posting here.

I’m not a betting man, but I figured watching the Heisman odds could be a cheap sloppy way of seeing where the QB pecking order lies. (Just gonna be concentrating on the QBs)
Week 0:
Arch Manning (Texas): +700
Cade Klubnik (Clemson): +900
Garrett Nussmeier (LSU): +900
Carson Beck (Miami): +1800
LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina): +1800
Drew Allar (Penn State): +1800
Ty Simpson (Alabama): +1800
Julian Sayin (Ohio State): +2000
Sam Leavitt (Arizona State): +2000
Dante Moore (Oregon): +2500
John Mateer (Oklahoma): +2500
Week 1:
Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU (+650)
LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina (+700)
Carson Beck, QB, Miami (+1200)
Gunner Stockton, QB, Georgia (+!200)
John Mateer, QB, Oklahoma (+1300)
Arch Manning, QB, Texas (+1600)
Cade Klubnik, QB, Clemson (+1600)
Drew Allar, QB, Penn State (+1600)
Sam Leavitt, QB, Arizona State (+1600)
Dante Moore, QB, Oregon (+2000)
Personally, I like Sellers the most. Like a Hurts with less brute power and more skills associated with playing QB. It’s his size that has him move above Nussmeier for me. I don’t trust Beck, makes me think of a low-grade Matt Ryan. I like Allar as well, again due to size.

Poor Bill. Kraft makes a documentary. Bill coaches college. Both doing all they can to cement a legacy that more and more folk recognize is entirely owed to Tom Brady.
