There are a couple of articles that talk about him smoking on the sideline. How else could he look like this?

Too funny. I was watching a rerun of Happy Days. There was an episode where they are watching a 1956 Chicago Bears game, the starting QB throws an interception and Richie Cunningham yells at the television that they need to bring in the other QB who was George Blanda. Ralph yells back that he is too old and is washed up, lol.

Blanda ended up playing almost 20 more seasons.

How else? Genetics. That comes to mind. Smoking is not the only reason people age at different rates. Being outside nonstop also comes to mind. He did not play in domes for the majority of his career. Camps outside, games outside, practices outside. The radiation that comes from being outside ages you. He drank, as did a lot of guys, that can age you.

Simply put, any number of factors will age a person, smoking is just one of a very long list.

according to your graphic, Carr and Smith both have played their entire career with the Raiders.

if that implication is correct, then start Pickett now

Watching Geno a lot over the last few years I've always liked his decision making on when to take off. He's not skittish, like a guy we all know, and he doesn't give up on plays too soon, cough cough, and he's not reckless with it, but he's not shy about runnuing especially on 3rd downs and bigger moments.

If the run game is what we hope it is, and the O-line performs decently, Geno will not disappoint. He's not Lamar, OTH, he's not he who shall remain nameless. He's a solid QB with his head in the right place. I'm not expecting a Lombardi this year, but I believe Raiders can have a winning season. That's progress and a big leap from last year.

Here's a fun site to visit. Geno is #9 on the list with a grade of 89.9. The site wouldn't let me copy what was written so you'll have to go there yourself to read a fair evaluation of Geno's skills. Includes pie charts and other visual aids. Also interesting to read about the other QBs.

Alfalfa it let me cope the text. This is from the article you posted.

It’s a shame that Geno Smith’s stint as a journeyman backup cost him a decade of on-field development. Who knows what he could have become had he logged the thousands of reps that most starting quarterbacks get during the formative seasons of their careers. Smith might throw the prettiest spiral in the league. He’s accurate as hell, and he’s a calm operator in the pocket, which makes his offensive line’s job easier. While he’s a quick processor who can handle an expansive dropback passing game, he is prone to mental errors. Those errors are more frequent when he’s sped up. Most of his turnovers come against pressure or in the red zone, where windows open and close more quickly than they do in the open field. As Smith continues to start games and get more live reps, we should see fewer of those frustrating lapses. Like most quarterbacks who live on the fringes of the top 10, Smith has his weaknesses. He’s also got plenty of strengths and a robust skill set that doesn’t put any constraints on his offensive play caller.

How he can rise:

It’s too late in Smith’s career for him to ever challenge for a spot among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, but he’s got a similar skill set to the guys just below them. If he can cut his turnover-worthy play rate in half without sacrificing his big-play hunting, he could leapfrog a few of the big names ahead of him.
