Hondo has been spot on with a lot of his reporting, and really lines up with much of what we've seen. Some of the stuff in that article is amazing to me. This stood out:
The team employee said, "I remember one of Carr's friends saying that Derek was hurting. While he felt the team should've won in KC, he thought Mcdaniels' relentless and consistent push was not what the team needed."
One player summed it up best to me, "Josh sees a standard, and you have to meet that standard every second to win the trophy. I believe Derek saw it as constant negativity."
Followed by this....which is also telling...
"They added, "Derek was all in but I think he felt like the fun was being sucked out of the team. No one outworked Derek, but McDaniels was relentless. McDaniels has a Super Bowl or bust mentality, and Derek had nine years of this."
To me that says Dereks first priority is to have fun and be comfortable with mediocrity rather than be intense in your search for a trophy

Most people think a white Christian family can't be greedy charlatans. It does not easily compute with their world view so they look for other reasons. Derek's embarrassing sermon/pity party/self promotion expo proves otherwise. It's time for everyone to put it all together. The Carr's made a lucid decision in 2017 to cash out and play for self preservation rather than to do whatever it takes to win. That's why after extending plays from 2014 to 2016, all of a sudden he had the quickest release in the NFL and became the check down king. Some Raiders fans not only acknowledged the decision, they defended it. The Carrs thought that Derek was going to continue to fleece the Raiders for at least the next 3 years once that extention was signed like he did the past 6. When accountability hit, they began a new narrative- Derek's the good guy and the Raiders are the villains. This is equal parts crying like a bitch and an effort to bolster his value on the open market, but I think it's backfiring. Anytime you have this many prominent media members and teammates telling the truth out loud about this clown it's going to have a negative affect on his bottom line. Someone dropped a
in the
and it was Lil Derek himself.
Read til the end.Starts slow but gets good in the middle and in the end.I officially love McD
https://twitter.com/hondocarpenter/stat ... xOk9TwGbAw
Thanks for posting this. This seems to be a well-researched and even-handed article, and also seems to fit what we've observed.
It gets me fired up to hear that McD is instituting high standards for play, and is holding everyone accountable for mistakes. I hope he is also calling out his own mistakes during these meetings, too. When I coached, I never called out specific players, I always talked about what "we" needed to do better, and included myself in those discussions. That worked well for me, but being consistent in calling out everyone's mistakes and areas for improvement works just as well, though.
If you don't have high standards for team performance, that team is never going to perform at a high level.
As far as the article is concerned. I think Carr has always had the buffer from criticism provided by his family and others in his closer circle. Sounds like the criticism in front of the team was too much for him. For the record, I don't think JMD is a good coach but I appreciate consistency and fairness. If you treat everyone the same, players will respect that and respond accordingly.
Shows the bad side of too much insulation from the normal everyday pain and suffering that the world sometimes gives ya. It’s how you grow.
We grow through our successes AND failures, but if you never have to face up to a mistake, or admit that you’ve made one, well, you have a stunted emotional maturity.
I remember putting a “wall” up when a girl dropped me, then 3 months later tried to mend the fence. I was too immature to forgive at the time. I was in Jr. High.
Carr could stand to get some counseling, but the dude has “f[raiders_icon]ck you” level money. He’ll more than likely never grow up, and that’s why he’ll fail wherever he goes, and regardless of how stacked the team is.

I don't know a single person who thinks like this, and have run across very few of them in my life. I suspect that a few of the Carrstans who once frequented this board (but not all) think like this, but they are nowhere near the majority - either on this board, or in the general population.

That's how implicit bias works. I don't want to get off topic as that is only one point I alluded to and not the main point; however, implicit bias is a real thing that affects every single person to varying degrees. On the surface, Carr is very palatable, would you agree with that? Did you live through Tebowmania?
You don't see the hypocrisy in his sermon (stand-up act) because you don't want to. You don't see the bullshit in his press conferences because you don't want to. Just basic observations from anyone non biased can ascertain who and what he is. Those who notice don't have some sort of personality disorder as you would suggest, just observant.
Just say you don’t like him and keep it moving.

This must have success in 2023 talk gets me a little worried.I like the guy and I think what they are trying to build will work.
I don’t know what a good or bad 23 is for them.
I know some like Gruden, but he killed this team. There are so many holes and depth issues that I hope Davis can see that.
If we come out and go 3-14 next year,of course I won’t be happy. I’m just curious how well he has to do. If we get Tom the standard I would assume will be very high,if we go rook I think Davis will be a little more patient.

Doesn’t change anything in my eyes.
