Chris Simms ranks Derek Carr as worst starting QB in AFC West
“Some people put a lot of stock in Chris Simms’s QB ranking. If you’re one of those people you might be interested in where he ranked the signal-callers in the AFC West.
First of all, he puts all four starting QBs in the top 11. That tells you just how good the overall talent at quarterback is in the division.
What order is interesting as well. They go as follows:
2. Patrick Mahomes (KC)
3. Justin Herbert (LAC)
7. Russell Wilson (DEN)
11. Derek Carr (LV)”
This should please both “ABC’s” and “Stans”.
Not that I believe you will answer this but...Here's a couple examples for you...Who's fault was this spike play in the playoffs?
Raiders, Derek Carr ridiculed for first-and-goal spike in wild-card playoff loss to Bengals
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/new ... hsoyzhf0yy
https://twitter.com/PatrickClaybon/stat ... hsoyzhf0yy
Here's example #2 Who's fault was the ill fated interception Carr threw ending our chances to win the game?
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/14825159 ... rd-raiders
What was the name of the Raiders HC in that game?
I don't remember his name, I only remember that he is now the special teams coach of the Packers.
Perhaps having a HC in a playoff game matters... perhaps.
I'd also like to suggest that the Bengal's defense guessed correctly on that INT.
Defenses can get lucky too...
And Zay Jones, isn't he on another team now? Maybe Jones was asleep at the wheel...

For most of his career it’s pretty much been about his stat line since we’ve struggled to even field average rosters more often than not.
The way I see it he can either pull a stafford and show that yes - he’s a really good QB that just needed some help…. Or he can pull a cousins and show that it doesn’t really matter what you put around him - hell always be pretty mediocre.

Or like last year the last few games the defense carried the offense into the playoffs……only for the Turd to shot the bed…..
Let’s see what happens to this thread lol.

That said I am going to guess the Vegas odds of us making that aren’t the best. It would definitely change my personal opinion of him though.

That said, if he makes it to the AFC C game, I think you’ll find this thread a lot more quiet, or at least more positive

The fact remains however, that he had a sub 70 passer rating in the playoff game and more turnovers than touchdown passes over the last 7 games.
It was not the first time Carr crumpled in the playoff hunt, he does that every time ('17, '19, '20, and arguably '16). He is just not a guy worth building around. You don't pay a QB 40 million for weeks 1-8.

But I agree with your point here — Carr doesn’t even need to lead us to the AFC C this year. It sure would be nice, and it would go a long way to making me believe he could win the SB (my chief complaint with Carr is I can’t imagine him winning the big one). But really if he just showed that he can close a season as strong as he starts it, lead us to the playoffs and maybe (just maybe) win a game? I would soften my tone a lot if it was clear this team was on the right track to at least have a real chance to win the whole thing in the next 3 seasons — the regime went all in to give us a chance to win in that time frame, I want to se Carr make the most of that opportunity

QB is the most important position in football. Possibly the most impactful in all of team sports. So, this thread is not going anywhere as long as Carr is the starting QB of the team.
Now, if Carr somehow and in some way gets over his flaws, begins to bring it and takes his game to another level and does so throughout the season and into the playoffs, this thread will remain busy, but the tone will of course change.
I for one hope he does, and will sing his praises if by some miracle he manages it and so will those others that have been critical. We are only critical because there is quite a bit to be critical about. If he gives us a lot to celebrate, trust me we will.
Final note, I think that this thread is also busy because some seem to want to not hold him responsible or accountable at any time and defend him at almost all costs and well that of course fuels debate with those of us that see that he is not a victim of an underachieving team but rather a part of the problem of that underachieving team.
Whenever there is disagreement, there is debate. And well, do think it to be the lifeblood of any forum. It would be boring as hell around here, if we all agreed upon every aspect of the team. What makes this forum interesting is that we have different takes as to the strengths and weaknesses of the team, or as to what direction the team should take in the offseason, or what philosophy they should have in approaching the draft or free agency.
So this thread is not going anywhere and I have no problem with the fact that we all have different takes as to the quality of our starting QB and to his chances of taking it to another level this upcoming season. Makes visits here a tad more interesting.
How convenient of you not to mention Stafford .
And your right , Carr doesn't belong , he's BETTER .
Carr has done MORE with LESS , than any of those QB !
By the time Carr's career is over [ barring injury] he will be TOP 10 in all major passing stats.
If he has an average Carr year in 2022 , he will be in the TOP 40 in all time TD PASSES and TOP 30 in all time PASSING YARDS after only 9 seasons . UNPRECEDENTED !!!
THANKS FOR MAKING MY POINT !
Well looks like we've got us a football god here. Let me explain it in terms you might understand.
The Sea of Hands play. I'm sure you've seen it before. It's posted once or twice in the Best Plays thread. In the waning, desperate seconds, Stabler has no one open. He buys all the time he possibly can. As he's being sacked, going to the ground, he tosses up a desperation throw, but giving his man the best possible chance to make a play. It worked.
Derek would have chucked it in the dirt and gave up. He's done it more than once. Giving up on plays is ANTI-RAIDER.
The Holy Roller. You're old enough to have seen that one I'm sure. Last play of the game. He's sacked, but has the wherewithal to keep the play alive. "Accidentally" fumbles, giving his teammates a chance to keep it alive. It worked. Big plays, in big moments in big games. Rising to the occasion when it matters. Stark contrast to the pansy behind center now.
Stabler never had great athletic ability, or even a great arm. What he did have was heart, guts, improvisational quick thinking ability, and a burning desire to win, especially in the biggest moments. Derek has none of those things, and likely never will. His stats come in the first 8 or 9 games, after that, it's clear he just wants to go home to his XBox. The lights get too bright for him. He'll choke again this year. Guts isn't something you can teach.

This thread wouldn't exist if the Raiders were a winning franchise over the past 8 years.
Why aren't the Raiders a winning team? Do you really need to ask?
Just for shits and giggles come up with a list and leave the QB out for a change.
Then add the QB and weigh it out.
After you weigh it out you will have discovered that Derek Carr has been behind the eight ball his entire career.
