Mixed Drinks
Since we know beer is for barbarians, what do you have for mixed drinks?
Normally I drink Scotch but I do like certain other drinks.
I’ll start and this is sure to get Pfish57 going:
Notre Dame Legends Highball
2 oz Irish whisky
2 oz apple juice
2 oz ginger ale
Lemon wedge
After a few of these? Feel no pain.
Later on I’ll share some my other favorites: Shark Attacks, Bloody Marys, and Carmel Apples.

Not a big mixed drink guy. I like them but, I find I don't like making them...lol. I'l do a simple bloody mary every now and then.... 100 proof vodka, home made/canned tomato juice and enough tobasco to give it some heat.... good to go.
I prefer whisk(e)y straight up neat in a Glencairn. Bourbon, Irish, Scotch, Rye..... it's all good.

I cant do mixed drinks any longer as alcohol burns the throat too much but in the old days I kept it simple with a couple few fingers of vodka, some tonic water and a splash of OJ for color over ice.....basically a screwdriver but with tonic water added for some fizz
Today a few coors lites or Michelob ultras and Im fine

I don't drink, I hate alcohol and the next day is wasted on me. Was always a pot smoker but gave that up too. Every once in a while I will partake in either or but not both. A couple of beers I really like are 805 original ale and Yingling lager. IPA's are way too hoppy for me. Mixed drinks I like an Italian margarita, separator, toasted almond all come to mind. Along with beam and coke or some other economical bourbon. While in Hawaii it's always Lava Flows and Mai Tai's...

3 parts dark spiced rum
2 parts light spiced rum
3 parts orange juice
2 parts strawberry juice
2 parts pineapple juice
2 parts mango juice
splash in enough grenadine until the concoction turns reddish in color
That will put hair on areas of your body that do not often see the sun. I don't make it often but when I do I make a gallon at a time and I eyeball the making of it. It has names like Sunrise Mai Tai or a rum punch but I call my particular recipe an Adam Bomb.

Not since college days. There was a bar we used to trek too, The Rongovian Embassy. They featured a lineup of drinks. Suffering Bastard, Dying Bastard and Dead Bastard.

Visited a friend at UCLA back in the 80`s. His frat was throwing a party and they had some sort of tiki type head that was a fountain that ran water out of the nostrils. For this particular annual party, they filled the fountain with some high dose vodka from Mexico mixed with red koolaid. People would fill their cups under a nostril of "Ugga Boo". The drink was called Red Death. The chant went like:Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 10:33 am Not since college days. There was a bar we used to trek too, The Rongovian Embassy. I eyeball it as I am going but the goal is pretty much to have enough kick without the heavy alcohol taste. It is pretty good given you are combining acids and sugars. The result is a drink that is sweet with just enough citrus to offset the sweetness.Xramfan wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 11:02 am For a gallon concoction im guesstimating 1 part is roughly 8ozs? FYI I have a home bar and while I don't entertain like I used to, I still mix my own drinks. Got a great liquor store down the street that is reasonably priced but the easy drink for me is a lemon drop, but the secret is to put your vodka in the freezer. Something about really cold coupled with lemon is just really good.
I have also aged my own whiskey. Small barrels are easy to get and aging the stuff only takes a bit. You lose a bit during the process but not enough to notice. I have tried my hand at distilling using corn and that is an interesting process. Vodka was the result although I am thinking about trying a whiskey from corn as well. All sorts of stuff can be made from various options in corn. It is a fun hobby that I wish I had more time to play around with. But the barrel? I get mine from Thousand Oaks Barrel Co. Reasonable prices and charred for you so you get that caramel ting to your final product.

Then there's the Screaming Viking, which is a Viking (1 oz vodka + 1 oz vermouth) that is being chased by a White Russian.

Carmel Apple
(Very appropriate around holidays as the Carmel is available then.)
2 oz Crown Royal Carmel
1 oz Crown Royal Apple
2 oz Ginger ale
Splash of lemon juice
Garnish with an apple wedge
Have enough of these and the Raiders in late December is much more tolerable.
