Fire Chip Kelly
Figured we can talk about the scheme that is wasting Jeanty, regressing Smith and frustrating the hell out of the fanbase. Not to mention Bech being wasted and a load of other issues.

As a big Oregon fan, I was thrilled when we brought Chip in. But his offense is just plain not working. Geno's INTs are only part of the problem.

Split zone blocking out of the shotgun with a bunch of scrub linemen is a recipe for disaster. Guaranteed if we just told these guys block your gap the offense would be substantially better.

Jordan Meredith = Jason Kelce
Whatever man. Tactical line calls, short yardage pick up, where are doing awesome in those categories, right Chip? Jordan getting his Pro Bowl berth? Right, we're in the thick of the AFC West race? Right Chip?
WTF man, Meredith gave up 2 A gap sacks to a 35 year old MLB, TWO!!! Many times a DT is left untouched in to the back field, killing G or Ashton. Who makes that call, oh that's right, Jordan. Come on Chip? When you calling it a day?
The goose that helped Gannon, having Barret Robbins ass in front of him, the confidence he had to call ANY play from the playbook at any time, because he had Robbins in front of making the calls and the blocks. It was a safety net.
Geno does not have that in Meredith. Supposedly JPJ practiced together a lot with Geno during the offseason. I think JPJ will give Geno much more confidence to clearly make reads, because JPJ is that safety net that Geno does not have right now.

Chip failed in both his NFL stints.
We decided to ignore those glaring warning signs because he looked good with a stacked Ohio State squad.

Chip blows as much as Gino (on pace for 30 interceptions). I really thought he was going to be one of our biggest acquisitions this offseason. I actually felt bad for him holding his head on one of Gino's throws into triple coverage.

Maybe he didn't think that Geno would make those kinds of decisions?RI RAIDER wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 11:49 am Chip blows as much as Gino (on pace for 30 interceptions). Those damn shotgun runs are ridiculous, totally agreed with that!
That said, I think CK has a pretty proven record and it seems to be being stuck with Geno is tanking that rep etc. How do we know that it's not Geno calling those shotguns constantly? QB's are usually given a formation with multiple plays available to them from that. This is also known about CK's offense. Those damn shotgun runs are ridiculous, totally agreed with that.
I'm not defending him yet, though I think his record actually does the talking. Has won on multiple levels and Geno has only had a couple of good seasons with many wanting him run out of multiple places. Maybe we are seeing why? I don't know, I jsut know that right now is a complete shit show, dumpster fire in a clown car!

I was generally excited to have Chip, but it's obvious he hasn't adapted to the NFL game. Once again, the Raiders are one of the few teams that rarely utilize presnap motion or preshifts. Looks like the same old archaic offense we've run for decades.
Meanwhile you look at the Rams and Niners and it looks like it doesn't matter who is behind center. They run a very QB friendly offense that is designed to get their best players in space and really stretch the defense.

Posting this ^ in this thread cause it’s where it belongs.LayneStaley wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 12:12 pm Kelly has never really meshed with NFL players very well, he might just be better suited for the college game. I feel like he’s the OC version of the HC version of Josh McDumbfuck.
He gives off weasel vibes.

I think we know by the fact that Pickett hasn't been called to action that it's not Geno calling the shots.raiderkoch wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 12:22 pm Maybe he didn't think that Geno would make those kinds of decisions?

We most certainly know that when the coach calls in a play, the QB has only a few options as far as audibles are concerned. We also know that the personnel on the field will dictate the formation pre snap quite often. We also know that the play design in the playbook is favoring the shotgun formation simply because of the number of times we are in shotgun. Finally we do know that Kelly has always heavily favored the shotgun formation.
But damn his play design, that even if he were fired we could not change during the year, it is killing us. We need to employ more pre snap motion, and we need to get Jeanty running downhill and that has to happen under center. The shotgun spread to run shit has to go.
I am actually going to be surprised if we make a move during the year, but our offense is better than what we are seeing and Carroll is so defensive minded he is not stepping in quite obviously.

That is certainly some of the issues. What also appears to be hampering him the most is not flexing for the players he does have rather than the ones he wishes he does.
It’s odd though. Our offensive skill portions are good, the lack of being in the same page as smith is what’s hurting the most. They’ve all got the talent to be a very good offense it’s just misfiring continuously.
Perhaps he needs to go Musgrave and shorten up the reads for Smith like was done for Carr. Smith has the tools it just seems as if he’s not moving through everything fast enough. Perhaps the complexity is overwhelming? Not sure .

Sorry, I meant shotgun runs. Because again, it's known that they can run multiple plays out of a formation, so on the line calls by the QB. Do we know that he's not calling into those runs? I did see the article calling out CK, so maybe it is 90% him. I'm just saying I'm not sure we know the whole story right now!

I refuse to judge the guy yet.
Geno has 9 picks in 5 games. He's thrown into double and triple coverage, taken sacks that could've been throwaways and thrown glaring ints in clean pockets.
That's not on the OC, it's on the QB and possibly the QB coach.
It took a few weeks for the O-line to get its act together and it's looking better the past couple of weeks with respect to the run game and opening holes until we have no choice but to throw the ball.
Chip can't play the damn position for Geno and Geno's been around long enough so that he should know not to do stupid things with the ball.
All that said, I want Geno to stay in. He's getting us where we need to be draft-wise.

I agree with that, 100%, Geno's decision making has been 100% shit. That's not on the coaching...it's like the Carr curse!Opoponax50 wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 4:20 pm I refuse to judge the guy yet.
