Vea is 31 years old and wants to get paid. A second round pick?
He wants 30+ million a year, maybe closer to 35.
We aren't doing anything this year. Sign Daron Payne who is younger, costs less and won't cost a draft pick.
Or Grover Stewart who is still fantastic and will cost maybe 14 million and only be a couple of years while we try and draft a NT.

I like Vea but lets be real he doesnt make us a superbowl contender. No panic moves. If our run defense stinks this year then it stinks and we have to address patchwork as best we can before prioritizing it next offseason. This roster is not going from #1 pick to being fixed in one offseason

The top NT's in next year's draft are shaping up to be a really good group.DanKD wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 1:34 pm I like Vea but lets be real he doesnt make us a superbowl contender. No panic moves. I know it's revisionist history, but Jalen Carter would have been a nice get. But you know, Tyree WilsonGoodtimes333 wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 11:34 am Two mediocre 3 tech DT's starting on the defensive front isn't going to amount to shit as far as run defense goes. That also doesn't mean they just need some fat bodies either. I'm offering up a 2nd round pick for Vita Vea right now and see if Tampa bites. A new 3-4 year contract aligns with Mendoza's rookie deal also.
Besides that move, a trade for another Dtackle/Nose and another pickup on cut day is the route

The Raiders got CRUSHED today against the Texans
Fernando Mendoza & Kirk Cousins had some good & bad moments (both threw a pick 6)
Raiders trenches got dominated against Houston which is CRUSHING to hear as a Raiders fan

Our shit OL could not handle one of the best DL's in the league. SHOCKING.

Best ability is availability, love JPJ as a bench guy but I don’t think we should count on him to be an every week starter. It’s just always something and that’s gotta f[raiders_icon]ck with the continuity of the line.

Spytek added to him by signing Buford, drafting Zuhn, give Rogers a legit run at one of the spots, as well as Meredith.LayneStaley wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 2:25 pm Best ability is availability, love JPJ as a bench guy but I don’t think we should count on him to be an every week starter. I disagree.
Our offense only needs a WR1 and an LG to be complete.
We don't know what our defense needs because we don't have a NT. You'd be surprised what an elite DT will do for your entire defense. Ours would look day and night different.
Good call. Payne could be a sleeper pick up.haji81872 wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 1:30 pm Sign Daron Payne who is younger, costs less and won't cost a draft pick.

This is why Mendoza needs to sit. I don't want him to get killed before the Oline gets the bugs worked out.RI RAIDER wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 2:25 pm Our shit OL could not handle one of the best DL's in the league. SHOCKING.

Need a RT, kicker, NT and depth everywhere I would add to your listmranquales wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 3:16 pm I disagree.

DJ Glaze isn't the best, but he is average. Average NFL tackles are not as easy to upgrade as people think, especially ones who get push in the run game.Viper wrote: Tue Aug 18, 2026 3:33 pm Need a RT, kicker, NT and depth everywhere I would add to your list
We don't know we need a kicker until we see what Gay does, and at that point, just sign another one. We shouldn't be relying on our kicker to score points anyway, unless it's to seal a post-season victory. I've always felt the Raiders having great kickers/punters was a slap in the face. I'd rather never punt the ball than have an All-Pro punter.
NT is our biggest need and it's not close. NT is literally the difference between winning and losing games.
