I prefer to watch every game I can of his given my time constraints. I can fast forward through a lot of empty minutes and watch his footwork and his progressions etc. I think I am up to 8 games on this season plus his bowl games. I wanted to reach back to his Cal games but I don't have endless hours. I also do not give much credibility to the College Advisory Committee, but in addition I do read evaluations from several independent scouting groups such as PFF and Ringer.

He had legitimate points. He said that Mendoza could only throw well outside the numbers, throw good slants and hit the receiver in stride, and that he could get to the second read. What terrible qualities for a young QB to have! I don't suppose that a young QB could learn to hit the middle of the field or get to a third read with proper pass protection. Nor could one improve their reading of defenses.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 8:33 am Couldn't stand to watch the whole thing...it wasn't much more than a huge random word salad.
...And most of his perceived weaknesses of Mendoza are actually strengths of Mendoza.
Nope, it just isn't possible.
Seriously though, it doesn't take much sack to say that any given prospect won't be a star in the NFL.

Yeah, ok...Oaktownonly wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:43 pm Just reading he thinks Mendoza is a 4th rounder is reason enough not to watch it.
Heisman Trophy winner, 4th rounder? I would guess he'd be an ex-scout.
Many of these "experts" gave Cam Ward a top five draft grade. He was at best a 2nd round QB in a very weak draft class. Journalism has hit the shits. I grew up reading Sam Farmer and Steve Corkran so it's difficult to take this guys seriously. I do like Gutierrez.
Jim Rome and his National Enquirer antics started this crap.

I love when Mendoza talked about how after a snap he immediately notice he had missed a read and was like ah you guys got me there, but then still made a completion after he looked off that initial read. He can read a defense like a book.

He’ll get along well with our owner as they share the same palette when it comes to food:

Aside from that, I did hear him say he loves enchiladas, quesabirria, and jamón croquetas

Every time Mark fires a HC it shows he has no faith in what was being built and plants seeds of doubt in every player ultimately resulting in a "starting over" mindset.Xramfan wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:18 pm The Raiders have earned every bit of mockery they continue to get. When you have a zipper clown that fires every GM and HC within a year and a half of each other over a decade, you are deservedly ridiculed and looked at with contempt. I do t blame the media one bit.
The way you stop the media hate is to build some sort of semblance of a stable organization that has goals and plans. Again the zipper clown has sustained this circus show
If its Mendoza they nees to hire a HC that can see his development through with no breaks in direction.
This hire and draft will shape the Raiders for a decade.
Pivotal decisions that CAN NOT be fuckd up.

Which means Davis needs to step aside. Anyone with half a brain knows there is one constant with the Raiders and that is our goofy owner.KillerRaider30 wrote: Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:32 am Every time Mark fires a HC it shows he has no faith in what was being built and plants seeds of doubt in every player ultimately resulting in a "starting over" mindset.

Whitlock followed up by having Bucky Brooks on who doesn’t think Mendoza is all of that.

I suggest Raiders fans take a good read of this article regarding the Broncos drafting Nix and how wrong the media and draft pundits were. Remember these guys are pundits because they aren't good enough to actually scout professionally for NFL teams and are looking to make clickbait articles that are going to get the attention of football fans.

The Broncos were widely panned for drafting Nix. Remember all the C,D,F grades they received after the draft? Yes Nix isn't elite at the present time but 54 TD passes and 7700 yards in his first two seasons is right up there with the best ever stats for a QB after year 2. He may be a high end system QB at the end of the day but you can win with with them in today's NFL (Eagles won the Super Bowl with Hurts who's pretty limited as a pure passer) and that's exactly what the Broncos have dones since drafting him. IMO Mendoza is a better overall prospect than Nix was so I don't have any reservations about the Raiders taking him 1st overall."Two things: No. 1, you have to pay attention to that NFL train but don’t ever get on it. And what I mean by that [is] don’t ever get on that train and then base your decisions (on it) because, collectively, we all don’t know who’s driving it," Payton told Glazer. "When I hear people say, 'This guy, he could have gotten in the second or third round,' I know they don’t know what they’re talking about."
After spending a year in NFL media on the heels of a two-decade-plus run in the upper echelon of the league's coaching ranks, Payton was aware of how media tropes and online mock drafts can create a "train" of hype that even front-office personnel — the very experts paid handsomely to be above the fray — are vulnerable to. In a draft class top-heavy with quarterback talent, Payton felt quite strongly that Nix would be there for the Broncos.
I do think people have more access to video and more access to workouts and more access to all of these things, but honestly, in my opinion, humbly, I don’t know how many great evaluators are out there. It’s a tough position to evaluate to begin with, and I think once we knew that Bo was the guy we were going to draft, we knew that we couldn’t be the only team seeing what we were seeing. And come to find out, we weren’t. I’m just going to say that relative to teams behind us."

Mendoza has better intangibles from the standpoint of intelligence and ability to see the field. Nix was and is a short pass expert and that remains true today. His accuracy was unquestioned, even coming out. I would have been very happy had he dropped.
That said, Mendoza will need to add some weight to take the NFL punishment. A lot of guys are like that coming up. But his size and his arm will translate to the NFL very nicely
