I have to imagine that the same ones who think AO12 is a NFL QB (or even a backup) are the same ones that made excuses for Derek Carr year after year. Good Lord, AO12 is worth a half eaten bag of Doritos in this league.

Maybe, but as pointed out, they are hunting for a new coach. If I am taking that job, I am taking it with the specific goal of shoring up the QB position. Sanders had one decent game last year and it was against a very weak defense. His others were train wrecks. Gabriel lost the job he should have never had and Watson is not an answer to any question that does not start with "Who was the player traded that was the worst trade in NFL history?' (Hershel Walker but Watson is a close second) So they gotta answer that QB question and unless the Cards pass on a QB Simpson could very well be a Brown.

I had a feeling Simpson would declare. He has more risk than Moore coming back. Alabama is stacked behind him so one minor injury and he could be riding the pine and then be a mid round pick in 2027

Malik Willis is a FA but I think some teams will try and make him a starter..like Arizona, the Jets or Cleveland if they're not sold on the Sheduer/Gabriel team. Cousins is also a free agent too if he is ok with being a backupraidersince63 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:15 am If our QB1 goes down with a season ending injury, AOC will keep the Raiders "competitive" ?
...not from what I've seen. For one, he's not nearly mobile enough to suit me.
Saying that he's better than our last 3 QBs brought doesn't give me that "warm and fuzzy feeling" either.
I think we can do better than AOC as the #2.
Mack Jones could be a good option if he's available.

First it has to matter. Because lately when the #1 goes down, it doesn't matter.raidersince63 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:15 am If our QB1 goes down with a season ending injury, AOC will keep the Raiders "competitive" ?

If you are a good team and #1 goes down, you have to be hoping to tread water with your backup, .500'ish most likely acceptable.
Can he do it? We'll if we were actually good and we can actually block, maybe.
There are some solid, proven #2's, but not many, most would have you question if you can with with them or not.
So yeah if you can get someone better for the right price, always a sure there.

Again, I've always liked AOC, mainly because he was a later round pick which kinda made him an underdog...but all things considered, I see him as our 3rd string QB if he makes the cut next year.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:20 am I have to imagine that the same ones who think AO12 is a NFL QB (or even a backup) are the same ones that made excuses for Derek Carr year after year. I'd be surprised if any other NFL team would be willing to trade their #2 QB for AOC.

I don't want an underdog, I want the dog. Mendoza, he is a dog.

Can't wait to see "FM" on draft day and wearing the Silver and Black on opening day. "No static at all".

I think if you have a chance at getting Mariota for a year or 2, you do it. AOC as the 3, leave him there, we really do not need a developmental QB next season, maybe when AOC's deal expires we go back to the well late in the draft for 2027 or 2028.raidersince63 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 12:38 pm Again, I've always liked AOC, mainly because he was a later round pick which kinda made him an underdog...but all things considered, I see him as our 3rd string QB if he makes the cut next year.

Haven't seen any tape yet of Mendoza throwing over 56 yards yet, but he has an absolute rifle arm up to at least 40 yards. Some of his throws are absolute missiles. Would be very interested to see him throw at the combine if he decides to (he certainly could skip it and nobody would bat an eye.) With that velocity, it seems he could throw 65+ if needed
By contrast, Moore throws a lot of intermediate floaters from what I've seen. To be fair, some excellent throws on tape.
I'm calling bullshit on the Moore is more mobile/better arm claims, seems like a bias for whatever reason. Could be wrong

Brady didn’t win 7 because he was the most mobile or had the bigger arm. He refused to be outworked and only accepted perfection. Mendoza has those qualities

And Brady will not be doing his side hustle when we get Mendoza so he can set the standard from day one.Raidernation1979 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 1:27 pm Brady didn’t win 7 because he was the most mobile or had the bigger arm. Not that I am aware, but he will have April through July to work with Mendoza.
