Yards Allowed on defense means nothing . No great defense has ever been "known" for giving up the less yards . Points Allowed is how defenses are remembered and the only thing that matters. With "turnovers" coming in second.
We gave up the less yards ! We win ! Said no one ever.
No quarterback wins in the NFL with the worst defense . That's Carr's eight year run. Ask Fouts or Marino .
That may be true. But no one was denying that Fouts or Marino were great.
Carr is good, but I doubt he suddenly becomes great in year 9.
I will gladly hope to be proven wrong.

Yardage means diddly at the end of the game. Points are those things that determine the outcome of games.
How many points did your offense score and how many points did your defense give up. These are the ONLY two stats that determine games. The rest are window dressing.
And in 2022 our offense needs to be far more efficient finishing their drives and SCORING TDs.
And in 2022 our defense needs to be far more efficient keeping opposing teams from SCORING TDs.
In 2021 BOTH the D AND O were below average in the most important stat: scoring.

We gave up the less yards ! We win ! Said no one ever.
so you use yet another excuse? Yards translates into points, and that is the standard the NFL uses to rank teams. We can see that with our redzone offense, we fail to get yards in the redzone, we do not score points. You were using that standard when you said our defense was dead last whether you want to admit it or not. You looked up defensive rankings, saw ours at the bottom and used that stat

I feel bad for the defense that gets no cap money, less draft picks than the offense, and has to deal with the 'You can put that on me' football pinata on offense.
A little critical thought by some of those posters would show that the defense is bad by design, the Losses are because they leaned on the offense to make up for that decision. It has never worked out.

we spent overly in draft capital, free agency and money on the offense. It was the focus throughout his career. Gruden tried to make that focus on clock management as well to keep his shorted defense off the field. This is the team by design. Gruden tore up the old team with one holdover. By design. When you invest in the offense overly, you cannot expect the defense to prevent yards and scores. It is up to the offense to overcome....by design.

A revolving door at wr/oc isn’t going to help a qb.
