Where did his “clutch” video go? At least put it in the Carr thread as it was pure gold. lol
He can find it again and post it. It was gold, he should have posted it in the right place.
I like what that guy is saying in regards to giving Smith a 2 year deal.
I was thinking more of a 3 year - 120 M dollar deal. 80M guaranteed, 45 signing bonus, which can be spread over the contract life of 3 years + 2 void years. Making the Year 1 cap hit at 11M(2M minimum + SB proration.) Cash to Geno - Year 1 - 47M

Year 2 29 base resulting in a 38 Cap Hit. ( In total 2 Years - Geno receives 75M in cash.)

Year 3 (walking) 5 Roster Million bonus 14M Cap hit
Then 9 M in Void Year 4 and 5.
It isn't a crisis that Geno Smith doesn't have a new deal. He is under contract, there's no rush to sign a new one. I think both sides want an extension and nobody is panicking.
Let him play out the season on his current deal...Extending him now makes no sense imo...Not saying things will be the same with the Raiders but he's been abysmal in the red zone...Let him prove his worth this season...No more overpaying for Turds. :paperbag:

I think we would all be pumped if he eventually becomes one of the highest paid QB's (after proving it this season).

I take a different view. Give him a friendly 3 year deal, his best years were with Pete, and he allows us continuity while we fix the roster. We need to fix the roster, so we need a guy we can count on while we fix the roster. This has nothing to do with being a playoff team who can win a few games and everything to do with team building. Build the team until the QB of the future is identified, and then we can focus on Geno's place in the universe. Place holders have their place in the scheme of things. We have two place holders, Geno and Pete. Let them do what they are there to do.

Not sure why everyone is getting in a tizzy over what contract to give Geno....

We got Tom f[raiders_icon]cking Brady on our side.... Yeah!!!!!

OK, enough sarcasm....pretty sure PC knows what dude has left in the tank....Raiders are going to have to draft a QB 3 at some point. A 2 year deal with a 3rd year option seem to me not out of the question. Who knows at that point if AOC is even still on this roster.

We aren't talking about Geno the Jet hopefully, and to the same extent hopefully see even an upgrade Geno the Seahawk here. IF he plays as good or better than he did with the Seahawks, the Raiders have a decision to make as to whether to extend him after this year, franchise him to buy time and extend him OR let him walk like the Vikings let Darnold walk and recover the same round draft pick they invested in him a year later.

The downside of extending him before you see what Geno the Raider looks like, continues to add to the misery if track record of Raider quarterbacks have any say in it. Carr being extended twice never looked like the guy that was playing before extension one. Signing Jimmy Carapolo along with Brian Hoyer and having to pay them to not play for them. Same deal on a smaller scale with Gardner Minshew than Carapolo.

You can learn from your own mistakes but also other teams mistakes as well. The Falcons signed Kirk Cousins and drafted a quarterback in the top ten the same offseason. Think they wouldn't want to do a redo on that? The argument I guess could be made that the mystery factor would be removed and someone could jump them without having Cousins in the fold. But that was a heavy investment if they were leaning towards drafting Penix under any circumstance.

Right now with what the Raiders are doing in free agency they are playing the compensatory game for next years draft. IDK if that is going to become a standard operating procedure moving forward. But right now, nobody has any clue what the Raiders could be drafting from rounds 1 to 7 and they are lying if they state otherwise. You couldn't pinpoint any position that they could be targeting. I feel pretty confident stating they wont be looking at TE, K or P, everything else you can still make an argument for. And I think that is part of the strategy.

40 million a year isn't top money anymore for a QB. The way the cap goes up each year it will be a very good deal.
