Short of next gen stats which college doesn’t have air yards per attempt is the best we have. I checked several of the past standouts and burrow was the only one higher than Mendoza. You thought he played at a small school with no competition so not sure how much you’ve actually watched of him.Attyla wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:10 pm misleading, air yards per completion would give you a more accurate assessment.

that was a mistake, he plays at a small school in a larger conference. Someone sited Penn St as one of his games this year, but we are not talking your dad's Penn St. They were exposed this year, mostly due to coaching but not entirely. But air yards per attempt is misleading. Completion is more accurate and tells the actual tale of the tape. Watched him a bit less than some of the others, and I will freely admit that, but I have watched his game and also read a lot of scouting reports on him and all agree he is a short yard guy with a reasonable middle range ball but his long ball does tend to float.Raidernation1979 wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:39 pm Short of next gen stats which college doesn’t have air yards per attempt is the best we have. Ok. That explains a lot. Scouting reports both have him struggling with the deep ball or being good at it. What I’ve seen this year and I’ve watched quite a bit he’s had no issues there.Attyla wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 12:44 pm that was a mistake, he plays at a small school in a larger conference. His biggest issue is high risk throws where he tries to fit the ball in. He did that quite often this past Saturday. Maybe the worst I saw them look especially early in the game the way he looked early in this last Saturday’s game I wouldn’t draft him solely on that.
However, 1/4 or 1/2 of play doesn’t make a quarterback. As a body of work for the games I’ve seen this season. I don’t see any glaring weaknesses that you don’t expect a college quarterback to have going into the pros.

I actually find value in scouting reports. These are from various locations so you get a group of views on a player and then you can pool the reports to pull out the most common views on a guy. I think getting others opinions has tremendous value. Different people view different things watching the same plays. I do supplement it with actual tape but I cannot watch every game the top guys play like these scouting sites so the report may validate what I am seeing or not but I do think from what I have seen it is a fairly correct view to view him as a Nix type of player. Can he throw a deep ball, just like Nix he can. Is that his game, just like Nix it is not. He is a short yard to intermediate yardage guy and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of successful guys at the next level are like that. Think Matt Ryan.Raidernation1979 wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 1:02 pm Ok. That explains a lot. But gathering as much info as you can? Great way to form an opinion. Back it up for sure, but anyone who refuses to listen to the "pros" or "experts" simply because you are not forming your own opinion? That is a fallacy. You listen to others, you watch what you can and then you are far more well rounded.
Will he be successful? I think so. So probably will Simpson. Moore has a shot as well. Sellers is a bit more of a longshot and I have watched a lot more of Sellers than the rest because of his physical stature. I wanted to see leaps and bounds from the guy from the start of the year so I tried not to miss much of him. Unfortunately, I did not see that "aha" moment. Mateer I had high hopes for, but again, barring the injury, has not really lived up to expectations. And even in a short year, 12 TDs, not great. Not where he plays. And 10 picks, again, not great.

Best thing he ever did was not seriously consider the Raiders job. I don’t know what it is with the Raiders stink but I’m sure if he took the Raiders job, that somehow he would look like a coach in over his head and his offense would suck. Mark Davis’s version of Silver & Black seems to make everyone worse at their jobs. It’s almost like a curse at this stage.

I wasn’t disregarding scouting reports as a whole. However, a lot of the current scouting reports are based on this year‘s play. Some of them may have updated but a lot haven’t throughout the year. I’ve read a bunch of them. Also I’m not negating what they say. I’m just saying based off of this year watching him play with my eyes. The deep ball doesn’t seem to be a concern. There are also scouting reports that backed that up.Attyla wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 1:45 pm I actually find value in scouting reports. The beauty of it is we all form opinions on players based on various things whether it’s what we read what we saw what we think they can become. Sometimes we’re right sometimes we’re wrong. Based on the games, I’ve watched his most glaring weakness is taking chances with tight coverage

He learned in Detroit what happens when you have an oline. Goff suddenly looked like a competent qb again with o very good oline, Williams has improved and his sack numbers are way down after Johnson invested heavily in the oline
