Wanted to give a little preview into what we've been working on @PFF which I think is pretty interesting. Here's how QBs perform when facing perfectly covered plays vs non-perfectly covered plays since 2019

Ain't really much to speculate about with Carr anymore.
He will earn that big contract or he won't.
Carr's supporters on the internet are ceaselessly vigilant when it comes to supporting their guy, but when they can only vote once in a poll, the numbers tell a different story. Carrstans are very vocal, but there are still more actual Raider fans than Carrstans.
Whatever. We won't have to wait much longer to see what happens.

It’s quite frankly insulting. I have been a Raider fan long before they drafted Carr and will be after he is gone.

Derek Carr. Year 9. Why ain’t y’all excited?!?!?
Stafford drafted 2009. Took him until 2021 to win a Super Bowl and he needed one of the most stacked defenses in the NFL to bail him out.
Oh if we only had Stafford instead of Carr...

I’m sure there are probably more on the cesspit that is Twitter.
I agree, Carr fans should stop. It’s quite frankly insulting. I have been a Raider fan long before they drafted Carr and will be after he is gone.
He had a sub 70 passer rating in that game. The whataboutism doesn't really work here, Mahommes put up a 92 rating against that same team in the playoffs.
Derek Carr played like Dalton out there. That is a fact. He also sucked the last 6 games of the season, he made some late plays but he sucked the other 3 quarters and lost the ball like a pinata in that stretch.
If only it was 'one game'. Sadly it is a proven fact after 8 years that Carr sucks in November and December, and we know now that he is even worse in January.
He is brave and hopeful early in the year, that never lasts long. 'Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth' is basically Derek in a nutshell. There is no risk in replacing a choker, no matter how many participation trophies some want to give him.
He will never, ever, ever make it through four playoff games - this year will just cement that fact when he chokes for the fourth year in a row when the playoffs are in sight.
There is no sanity in 'carrying' a 40 million dollar QB to the playoffs like the team did last year.
All I’m saying is that there is risk. You could just wind up with a QB that sucks all year long - don’t have to worry about whether QB x will choke with playoffs in sight… if playoffs are never in sight.
Is Carr the QB of my dreams? not by a mile. I wanted Herbert - hell I’ll even concede I wouldn’t have hated Tu’a (imo injuries in college kinda ruined him). Depending on how this season goes - if we can swing a trade up for young or stroud I’m all for it.
But after watching us be utterly hopeless from 2003 to 2013…. I have an appreciation for a QB that has usually kept us interesting for most of the year in spite of our ineptitude at roster management. Is that good enough to stick with long term? No. But I’d certainly rather roll with that until we have the opportunity to get a QB we love… than miss on a desperation move and be relegated to hopelessness for another 4 years.

However it is absolutely possible to get a 10-15 QB in a trade (Alex Smith, Stafford, etc..), if the bottom falls out and you truly need a QB. Hopelessness is for the timid, good coaches fix the problem and have won SuperBowls recently doing so.
I just don't believe we are a Derek Carr away from a SuperBowl. His own performance shows a man that is not capable of doing much other than get carried in the late season, including the playoffs. That is a problem and 'how we look while losing' doesn't matter if we can't even win a playoff game. 8-8 just gets us worse rookies in that case.
I love him here this season, but we paid for a top 3 passing attack imo and have to have a valid QB for the 'just in case we were close' experiment.
When/If we rebuild, you don't rebuild around a guy like Derek at 40 million. Unless year 9 is the 'breakout year', then we should seriously look at replacing him with a rookie they like or a trade for a more competitive QB. This team is in a perfect position for a 23 rookie.
This year, imo, is as close to an evaluation year as he has had since he was a rookie. We all know what Mac Jones did without the best receiver group in the NFL, Carr needs to put '40 million reasons to keep him' on the field this year and imo that means winning a playoff game and doing it convincingly on his part. No more Garrapolo games.
I don't think he will.
* I would love to be wrong, the experiment is absolutely worth the cost of admission. Next year will be a hell of a season I hope.
Maybe for one year, but after that their salary sky rockets.
correct, none of them sat down together to take deals to keep us cap friendly for the duration of their contracts, unless you take Carr's contract as one they can ditch after one year.
Year two on all of those deals is brutal to the cap, and if you add in a couple other larger contracts you chew up a third of the cap if my calculations are correct

Also I saw rumors that we might be interested in OBJ when he heals up.... but that would be mid-season
Maybe for one year, but after that their salary sky rockets.
Well, rebuilds are always exciting, at least at the outset. Then we get to engage in the years-long rant of how f[raiders_icon]cked up every decision the FO makes is and what a shitty job the HC and his coordinators are doing, etc.
Good times ahead.
I do wonder if Mark, Zeigler, and McDaniels had a conversation that went something along the lines of, "Let's just go all in this year as best we can, but plan on rebuilding next year."
