Looks like its made up. Theres zero overlap in their carees. Now the Raiders did bring in Brandon Hunt from eagles front office so that person would have ties.

That has to be a made up rumor. That guy isn’t OC material, let alone HC material.

I don’t think that’s a fair synopsis of Tomlin imo. Nevertheless, as it pertains to the appeal of a guy like Tomlin:Goodtimes333 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:32 pm He's done nothing without Ben Roethlisberger & he's been absolutely incompetent at getting another quarterback. Past success doesn't matter. He had that success with Pittsburgh, with a ready made team built by the former coach who wanted to retire on top of that. One & done in the playoffs is not the vision to have. That defeats the purpose of having a winning regular season. Just keep in mind he inherited a Steelers team that just won the super bowl in 06. Cowher retires, Tomlin inherited a super bowl champion team.
The Steelers have been one of the best drafting teams under him. Equally so in terms of player development. His defences are almost always top 10. As a result the Steelers rosters under him have generally ranged from above average to loaded - enough so that he’s been able to get into the playoffs with guys like fields and Russ. His problem in addressing QB is generally that they are just never bad and never in position to draft a top prospect.
You’d basically be betting on his ability to find and develop talent and Betting against the idea that he’s innately bad in the playoffs.

I have no doubt Tomlin will coach again but he needs a break. To those that point out that Tomlin hasn't done shit without Big Ben. What has Billechick done without Brady? Being a good coach is only one part of the equation. You need your QB.
It makes me appreciate what Joe Gibbs was able to do without an elite QB. A feat that will probably not be replicated.

there are ways to acquire a signal caller. why the Steelers never attempted to make any serious moves to get a legit presence behind center is beyond me, but that is more on their front office than Tomlin.raiders93 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:33 pm I don’t think that’s a fair synopsis of Tomlin imo. with that said, he can't develop talent on the offensive side of the ball. all of the Raiders blue chip, young talent is on the offensive side of the ball (including Mendoza). we need someone who is going to maximize that. it's a bad bet.

You are flat out wrong. The quarterback criticism is fair but he has definitely been part of developing some really good offensive lineman, backs and receivers.riseNraid09 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 10:12 pm there are ways to acquire a signal caller. why the Steelers never attempted to make any serious moves to get a legit presence behind center is beyond me, but that is more on their front office than Tomlin.

man you guys have a hard-on for this guy...DanKD wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 10:21 pm You are flat out wrong. The quarterback criticism is fair but he has definitely been part of developing some really good offensive lineman, backs and receivers.
who are we talking about here? uhh... Najee Harris? get serious, man. give Tomlin all the f[raiders_icon]cking credit you want, by all means, knock yourself out. it won't change the fact that the Raiders hiring him would be a complete and utter fail.
... you can throw Le'Veon Bell in there too, I suppose. still does nothing for me.

Still waiting for you to reveal exactly who is the mystery "hotshot young coach" that the Raiders should hire.

LayneStaley wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:05 pm I think it would depend on money and if he got to call plays for the Raiders but I see your point. I think it also depends on his view of Fernando because I’m sure everyone in the Rams building knows Staffords years are numbered.
But if you’re hiring LaFluer to call plays, why would you hire Nate or would he want to make the move, same with the other way around.
If we hired Shula for HC It would make more sense.
Even without Stafford, sticking with McVay is a much better route for a HC. Even without Stafford

Liam Coen is an interesting name to bring up, since he got the job in Tampa after they had a highly successful year under Canales who left for a HC job after one year. And then Coen had a better year than Canales, so were they hurt or helped by losing an OC after one year?Arsenal Raider wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 2:17 pm Good point, we're used to seeing it with dysfunctional teams rather than successful ones.
It's probably a combination of that bad team rookie development issue + recently seeing Ben Johnson & Liam Coen immediately leave to have success (while their old teams clearly are worse off without them.)
A layering of concerns I'd say. Signs of a desperate fanbase who finally sees a little light and doesn't want to fck it up![]()
And I'm more specifically looking for a situation where a young QB has had his development impaired by changing OCs. Thus why I mentioned Hurts, and Jones.

The very best OC candidates will be looking to be the top offensive voice on the coaching staff - they will want to be OC under a defensive head coach. Otherwise they'd generally much prefer to work under Mcvay or Shanahan until they get their chance to be the top guy.
