But, why would Nate come here to be OC when he would be OC with the rams in that situation.
People that keep coming up with ideas like this and having Mike McDaniel as OC are smoking something crazy thinking it would ever happen. An OC position for many in these situations are only thinking about which place gives them the best chance for a top HC the year after.
It’s why Kliff went Washington instead of us. It’s why McDaniel wouldn’t even think about a OC job here, and might take a job with the Lions over the Browns HC job

I am not so sure Tomlin wants to coach again for a while. Fox sports beckons.LayneStaley wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 5:19 pm Steelers still own Tomlins rights, he quit. I really wouldn’t want to give up picks for him. I don’t mind him but I think we should go young.

Half these asshole GM's just hire guys around them who are buddies. Like it's a hangout session where they get paid big with an elite lifestyle. It happens often and it's gross. If that's Spytek I don't think I'd be a Raider fan much longer. I'm about at the end of my rope of Raider bs haha. Each and every one of you understand! I hate to be that guy but MY LORD! This is a pivitol moment in Raider history.
I'm inclined to an offensive minded coach, just because if you nail the hire you essentially don't have to worry about the offensive system changing. If some team hires away your "OC" it doesn't matter, simply because the guy would just be a glorified coordinator when the engine to the offense is your head coach. It's an offense minded league now. The key point of it all being the development of Mendoza & staying with one coach for a long time.
That said, I really am a fan of Jesse Minter. His scheme is fantastic. That Charger defense had some talent but it wasn't stacked. You had Mack, Tupalotu, Henley, James as headliners. He had the other guys cooking & they were all on the same page. When he was first hired by the Chargers I read reports coming out by their players raving about his scheme. I think he's gonna be a success wherever he goes.

I think it would depend on money and if he got to call plays for the Raiders but I see your point. I think it also depends on his view of Fernando because I’m sure everyone in the Rams building knows Staffords years are numbered.WolfRaider wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 6:41 pm But, why would Nate come here to be OC when he would be OC with the rams in that situation.

Tomlin's OC hires have been ass. Hes also the one who decided to go with the quarterbacks that he did. I've never understood the hype around that guy. Good coach? Yes. Anything beyond? Nah. I was hoping hed return as that's one less tough out in the AFC. The Ravens have been perennial chokers under Harbaugh as well for some time

“I don’t want coach X with proven success. Give me coach Y who’s an unknown”
A top candidate like him isn’t coming here, so it’s all moot. Just like with Harbaugh I again find it funny that some on here act as if either of those coaches coming here would do anything but legitimize this franchise.

Like Pete Carroll? Pete has more success than John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin. All three have won a bowl, Pete was a nut hair away from winning two. He's been to two super bowls. He had great success in Seattle. He has greater success because he made the Seahawks. Tomlin inherited big Ben. He's done jack and shit without him.NoClapsPlease wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:21 pm “I don’t want coach X with proven success. Give me coach Y who’s an unknown”

The overall point is, past success doesn't mean future success. You also need to consider the fact that Harbaugh underachieved & Tomlin just couldn't win a playoff game in nearly a decade

Tomlin is over 20 years younger than Pete Carrol. He’s seen more success at 53 than most coaches finally see in their 60’sGoodtimes333 wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:26 pm Like Pete Carroll? Unfair comparison.

He's done nothing without Ben Roethlisberger & he's been absolutely incompetent at getting another quarterback. Past success doesn't matter. He had that success with Pittsburgh, with a ready made team built by the former coach who wanted to retire on top of that. One & done in the playoffs is not the vision to have. That defeats the purpose of having a winning regular season. Just keep in mind he inherited a Steelers team that just won the super bowl in 06. Cowher retires, Tomlin inherited a super bowl champion team.NoClapsPlease wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:28 pm Tomlin is over 20 years younger than Pete Carrol. where is the proven success? seriously? is that the standard now? make it to the playoffs and fail? the only time he won was with the Bill's f[raiders_icon]cking players.NoClapsPlease wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:21 pm “I don’t want coach X with proven success. Give me coach Y who’s an unknown”

I havent seen many older coaches start over these days and be successful. Im for going with a younger, quicker thinking, less set in his old ways coach.
