100% this and it’s also worth noting that early drafted QBs having good supporting casts is hardly an anomaly. Like you said, they’re all playing well but I don’t think you’ll find another 1st rounder on that offence at least as far as I’m aware.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 5:39 pm I get your point and in many ways you are correct.
But these players have all excelled making them the best versions they can be and now their stats/rankings would be a lot higher than then.
"Indiana ranks last (18th) in the Big Ten in talent, or 72nd nationally. OSU ranks 1st in the Big Ten, or 3rd nationally.
OSU has 11 five-stars and 56 four-stars compared to Indiana's 7 four-stars."
But some how today and when they were on the field vs OSU we didn't see OMG OSU monsters over puny IU, nope they looked their equal and one is simply playing better football now.
It is still great coaching prep and in-game, but they are now stacked as a team and playing lights out right now.
But your point is understood, on paper this wasn't supposed to happen.
Great coaching for sure. A lot of this offensively is probably the effect Mendoza has had

f[raiders_icon]ck Cal. They are a bunch of whiny tree huggers.Corleone wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:35 pm I was informed yesterday from a Cal guy that Mendoza left a bad taste in their mouth when he left the program. Supposedly, he lied to their faces about not transferring, and scared off a 5 star recruit who did not join Cal because he thought Mendoza was staying, and therefore would not be a starter. He then turned down a big NIL offer and went to Indiana.
I think there may be some sour grapes.
If he is talking about Sagapollutel that is not what happened and he ended up at Cal anyway. He was going to Cal knowing Mendoza might be there. The Oregon offered him and he signed there, knowing Moore was going to be the starting QB. Mendoza announced he was a Bear forever in late November, but Oregon had flipped Saga before then. He visited the Ducks in October and all the buzz was that he was going to.flip to Oregon.

A prospect who benefits from the scheme, well no f##kin sh!t !
Let’s not draft a player because of the “scheme” f#ck you!
You know who else didn’t have a canon arm or could run?
Joe Montana
Far as the past, the great Al Davis scouting philosophy on Offense minus the OLine was Arm strength and 40 time. See Russell and the great Hayward bey!
Mendoza and Moore both can play!
IMO, Moore will not leave school because of the Jets picking 2..
That leaves Mendoza so the decision will be easy!

Then explain how you didn't make up this, and got it wrong again as usual. If we go with a benchmark of 10 or more starts this is what we get: https://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/la ... s?sort=pctmranquales wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 5:12 pm I didn't make up anything. Not really. Arguing with someone who exists in a different reality is fairly pointless

Don't even get me started on this bullshit. We didn't have to hear about Bart Starr, Johnny U, Terry Bradshaw, Snake, Montana, Elway, Marino, Brady, Mahomes, etc. religious beliefs. Huh. It's almost as if one's religion doesn't matter when it comes to winning games. Look at all the prayers thrown up each week by players yet somehow it never makes a difference unless one believes that their god is influencing outcomes in order to make billions off sports betting.haji81872 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 9:31 am Dismissing a person's character is what got us Russell. To win games you need to be a leader, have personal responsibility and integrity. Combine that with immense football skill and you have yourself something.

His post has nothing to do with religion. He was talking about character which has no denominational bounds.Opoponax50 wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 10:46 pm Don't even get me started on this bullshit. We need a qb and having the #1 overall pick gives us the luxury of choosing the one we want. It is unlucky that we've managed to get this pick in a year where the qb class is underwhelming but it is what it is.
We either decide that Mendoza or even Moore is our guy and go for it or we trade the pick away. The lack of top end talent likely means the pick won't have as much trade value as most other years. Is it worth giving up our right to choose our qb from this class for a possible shot at someone else in the future? IMO, no but I'm not our GM and don't get paid to make that decision.
Can Mendoza be our starting qb for the next decade? Very possibly, he seems to have the traits you need to do this. If so, run the pick in as quick as you can and then work as hard as humanly possible to put together an oline which won't get him killed.
Our coaching hires are also critical to this process. We are historically bad at developing players and this needs to be our priority moving forward. It would be a massive waste of the #1 overall pick to fail them with poor coaching.
