Oh no!
https://twitter.com/PFF/status/15071754 ... xh9zIxkZyA
Carr doesn't deserve that contract. Carr was rumored to have said he would sign a team friendly deal, if they brought in Adams. Well they did, even Adams signed a team friendly deal imo, with how his contract was structured. $40 million a year and he's never won a playoff game, crazy!
This will sound like I'm sticking up for Carr, but go to them 8 years & see how much the defense was giving up on points. In the past,I have read where we were the worst defense of the decade.
https://raiderswire.usatoday.com/2020/0 ... of-decade/
Right, but at the same time, our offense has been pretty piss poor for most of those years as well.
We were losing in the 4th quarter because we have had bad teams, on both sides of the ball more often than not. One side got 2/3 or more of the resources quite a few of those years as well, and it was not the defense, but people never consider that.
Noone has ever called the defense great and rarely has the word good even been used for it in my 5 years on this board.
I believe his point was just that - when you are losing a lot you get a shot at a 'comeback' stat a lot.
As Chucker mentioned, Big Ben led the league in comeback wins this year, then retired because he sucked.
Comeback wins should never be used in this discussion imo unless they are 'as a percentage of opportunities'.
Example:
QB A was losing in the 4th 12 times last year. They won 4 of those games - so QB A was able to lead a comeback 25% of the time.
QB B was losing in the 4th 6 times last year. They won 3 of those games - so QB B led a comeback 50% of the time.
Common sense says QB B is better at comebacks. More opportunities says QB A is better though.
It is a fools gold stat, but Carr does well at it. I like him having the ball in the fourth and it lines up.
Last I read Carr was 6th place for a percentage of comeback upportunities for active QBs. He is legit top 10 at the end of football games, damn near top 5. It is impressive.
The disconnect comes from people constantly, and completely inaccurately stating 'He is the the best evar at it, because look at how many he has'.
Its a theory that when Carrs record is counted against him some say the defense has sucked balls all these years and is one of the leading factors as to why the record is what it is.
As in
Hey we had the 31st ranked defense and that Carr only won us 4 games.
That’s not what I asked.

5 years 200M was exactly what I predicted weeks ago.
I am neither for or against it, it is not my money. I just want that money to be justified. And let me be quite clear, if that is the deal he signs, I do not want to hear about the f[raiders_icon]cking defense from his ardent admirers. You got your guy, and he comes at quite a price. We are wrapping up just under 1/3 of our cap in 2 guys so the defense is going to take a hit. That means, gentlemen, that Carr will have to play even better to offset that fact. So any discussion about the defense goes out the f[raiders_icon]cking window. If we are going to spend 60M on two guys on the offense, those two guys better be lights out and get us deep into the playoffs. 5 years at 200M is a 100% pay raise. When you get a 100% pay raise, the employer and consumer have the right to expect 100% improvement. That means no more of this 26 TD bullshit. That means you hang onto the ball, and that means you make your guys better on the field, both offense and defense. You score TDs in the red zone.
He better be in the 30s for us to compete in the AFC west.
I'd say 35+ is the new standard for NFL QBs to be considered worth a big contract--maybe close to 40.
OTOH, on another board the other day, some genius told me that TD passes are an "overrated stat". So maybe this whole notion of scoring points in NFL games is the wrong strategy for us to employ.
Roethlisberger led the league last season in 4Q comebacks and GWDs and his season was so stellar that he called it a career. It's not a good stat.
YIKES! That one argument that gets recycled every year just took a hit. Ben was terrible last season.
I have been saying it would be 40 million a year for some time and well I have said from the start, I do NOT want the team to sign Carr on an extension this year. It makes no sense to me. He is ALREADY under contract. The only way I extend Carr now, is if he takes a team friendly contract on no more than 30 million. Actually right now, I would not be surprised if the number is closer to 42 or 43 per.
I am sensible enough to see what Carr ACTUALLY does in Josh's system before making the decision whether or not it is wise to extend him on a huge contract and locking in the team. And am REALLY hoping that the present regime finds a way to push the negotiations to next offseason.
I do fear that the Raiders will extend him on a fat contract and that it will only move the inevitable down the road and in the meantime we will be mired in mediocrity at best. As much as things change, they stay the same for the Raiders.
But I am the one that wanted him traded this year. Seems like almost every other damn QB moved but Carr. Crazy offseason.

Carr probably doesn't even need a publicist. He's got his family and all the Pro bono publicists on the internet.
Exactly. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Good point!
At times, reading posts it does sound like it is the job of the Raiders to make Carr look good.
But as a fan, I think most of us think it is Carr's job and every players' job to make the Raiders look good....to win.
Some might think it splicing hairs or I am simply playing with words, but I do think what some find frustrating is that there are fans who appear to cheer for Carr first and foremost. It is almost as if, they are more happy if Carr has a good game and throws for a lot of yards but the team loses, than if Carr plays poorly but the team still manages a win.
And yes, the title of this thread goes to the heart of the matter. It is not about the Raiders winning but about Carr gaining an award.
There are many reasons why I dread a long contract extension for Carr, but somewhere down that list....must admit this weird fanboy shit is one of those reasons.
I never sad I was a huge fan of Carr, because I'm not. I just stated a fact that when he had Amari, which was somewhat considered a number one reciever, Carr was an MVP candidate. Carr then got injured and it seemed to mentally lower his confidence, he just wasn't the same for quite awhile.
Amari got traded, and we've never really had a true number one reciever since. Now we have one in Adams, and I think it will show up big in his play this season. Carr has alot of flaws, interceptions, fumbles, difficulty scoring tds settling for field goals, etc.
But he does throw for alot of yards, and we now have guy that is a proven scorer, and Carr in my opinion will be back in the category for MVP. Sports shows on TV have commented on it. You all should hope its true, rather than being so negative and expecting the worse. I think this will be his best season. Thats my opinion.
