What you say has merit.
How the rest if the team performs also has merit.
No argument from me other than I'd like one season where the Raiders put together a complete team. If Carr shits the bed im with you. If he doesn't what can I say.
Other teams have nice toys like great defenses, hof receivers, shut down corners and stability at coaching, why can't we?
It all plays a role
This season is going to be fire man. I wouldn't trade it for a pick one QB (unless we are talking '23). Offseason optimism most likely, but this is how you hide flaws.
Those weapons are insane. Please get that man an offensive line. I am even ok with a little funny money. Next year will be rough cap wise, but if nothing else they are at least shaking it up.
We are still a long ways from a top 10 defense, but if we did not have Gruden running the ship we certainly could have been a lot closer.
Fortunately Mayock hit on enough pieces to even make this possible.

But yea looking forward to the year.
Hoping the coaching is solid. From what I've listened to the Raiders WILL be prepared.
I would love them to wait until next year to sign Carr, I don't see it happening though. I am ok with that, I just believe our odds drop dramatically for winning the big game when we do . I would rather swing again (even several times) before we see that. Having a 35 million dollar disadvantage against quite a bit of the league makes it hard to compete, rookies are drafted almost yearly that are better. Dak would be the same situation really and I don't like that signing either - they lost Amari already for example.
We need better imo because a top 5 QB is step one to sustained success. I know it is hard, but it can be done.
It just depends on what we have at years end really. It requires the whole package along with it, like you said - we don't yet know what our coaches can or can't do well though. Maybe we are close enough to 'give it the old Stafford try' in '23, and if so, sign away. Otherwise, just trade for a Stafford/Carr/Cousins when the team is ready if the rookies fail.
For right now however, as mentioned we have 55 million 'over cap value' in weapons. This is the time to go for it and they are.

Next year, as of today, we have 80M in cap space according to OTC and 21 players signed.
No QB on that 80M. So Carr at 35 leaves us with 45M to fill out the roster.
Now there's talk the cap could go up to 280 by 2025-6. That's helps and it doesn't.
What I'm seeing is a 3 year extension for Carr bc that's when Adams real money 40M per comes into play. Same ith Chandler.
At that time if the Raiders are still sulking ass they'll be some whole scale changes with tradrs and what not, if the coaching staff even survives.
It'll really depend on how this new regime drafts.
Yes QBa are eating up 20-25% of the cap for the most part. But WRs and DEs and shut down corners are not cheap either.
Getting them on a rookie deal is as valuable as having a QB on a rook deal. Maybe more bc there's more of them.
We haven't produced many second contract players over the past 8 years and beyond except for Maxx and Kolton.
So, imo, thell extend Carr for 3 years. (Hopefully to a reasonable deal bc he more than anyone says he wants to win a sb here.)
And see what the draft produces. The team, if they draft well can go into a whole different direction.
At that time we may see Carr and/or Davante and/or Waller and/or Renfrow traded. Maybe even Maxx.
Right now I think we're in good hands or so it seems with the new regime.
My real hopes lie in this new coaching staff. Especially on offense where I'm praying is McDaniels playbook and play calling is head and neck above the prior Gruden schemes.

He may get that but the breakdown will be something closer to a 3y deal 90M guaranteed with a bunch of fluff on the back end like Davante's.
Carr has over 70 losses in his first eight years. Most of his wins the team was losing in the 4th quarter and he somehow managed to help them across the finish line. My big takeaway from the “comeback wins” stat is that Carr led teams spend a lot of time down on the scoreboard.
This will sound like I'm sticking up for Carr, but go to them 8 years & see how much the defense was giving up on points. In the past,I have read where we were the worst defense of the decade.

Carr gets 40 of that, Waller gets an additional 8 on extension to 16, Renfrow gets an additional 15 to 17, and Adams gets an additional 14 from 8 to 22.
In total - that is a guess of around 77 million of the 85 total. So we only have 8 million in cap already for '23. It is just incredible how much those numbers matter. Still, I say funny money it if you have to. That cap goes up to 260 last I heard by '25.
However, as you said, we are likely going to have to pick and choose who we keep eventually. We won't be able to sustain this level of talent forever, but for now, 100% use it up.
We have the best set of pass catchers in the NFL right now is my understanding. We can make an above average QB look amazing - do it.
