I'd like to know how David Carr is even employed by the NFL net. He's Clueless. Darren Carr must get a check from Derek to be a cheerleader....
I turned the game right off after the final score and wasn't paying attention once it got out of hand. What is David Carr talking about? I remember Collinsworth saying he though it would be a good close game...
https://twitter.com/DCarr8/status/14600 ... 67811?s=20
I believe he was calling out the Raiders and saying how disappointed he was and expected more. Usually I don't like the guy but he was 100% right. National spot light and stunk it up.
Carr is better than Dalton, but not by much.
Dalton: 'His best seasons statistically, though, came in either 2013 or 2016. He threw for 4,293 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions in 2013, and 4,206 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2016.'
For a career, Carr has 'safer' numbers for sure. I would say prime Dalton and Prime Carr, is awfully close. Neither one ever rose to the occasion, which to me is the main similarity.
So many 'playoff' chance seasons recently with nothing but mid'round draft picks to show for it.

We seem to be in a unique situation, a QB who will be in the final year of his contract next year, a new coach looks to be on the horizon as well. We probably get a new GM is my prediction.
So Carr's relative value next year as of right now would rank him as the 15th most expensive QB out there, so cheap to keep. Zero dead money as well. New GM hires his coach, the GM drafts the QB of the future and we let Carr play out his final season. Even if Carr pulls a Favre and decides he is not mentoring his replacement, the QB of the future gets a sideline view of the NFL which will be valuable.
If the QB class does not measure up to the GM's liking, we tag Carr (2023 QB tag is not that expensive if I remember correctly) and do it again. We use 2021-23 to rebuild the rest of the team and make a run in 2024 at the latest. It also gives Carr 2 more years to prove he can get over 2021.
Seems like we are in a win/win situation contract wise.

perfect timing to get rid of carr next year or 2
can't wait for a new quarterback that actually want to win at all cost

Seems like we are in a win/win situation contract wise.
I agree , but after every game in which Carr has a respectable performance fans can expect Derek , his brother, his nephews etc... to talk about the next contract.

It would matter if Derek did what you're saying but he does not - ever. He has only ever mentioned a contract when directly asked the question and the most recent answer pushed the issue and discussion to the offseason at the earliest.
There's no need to create a narrative that doesn't exist.

Most recently Derek's commentary is that he "doesn't care if the contract gets done now or after this season". He seems to disrespect the fact that his current contract includes next season.

The Raiders don't need to extend him if they don't want to..... and I've had the position all along that they should take it to the franchise tag, or the second franchise tag. How is this even an issue unless you go way out of your way to view a podcast that features a guy you don't like?

Raiders fans know the team does not need to now give Derek a new contract, but Derek and his family don't see it that way. They think Carr is sensational and deserved a new contract yesterday. They will do what they can to make this an issue, try to put pressure on the Raiders etc... Wait for it.

If Carr were a free agent would there be a strong market for him? Probably not.

On top of that getting rid of Carr would free up close to 20 mill in cap space. At that point if Deshaun Watson is cleared we could make a play for him or Rodgers. But even if we don't go out and trade for a QB, that 20 mill could be put to good use with a bandaid QB + other players.
We will have to take a step back to be in a position to find the next QB in my opinion. Picking in the early teens/top 10 is a must, even if you intend on trading up. Keeping Carr around will only prolong our ability to find his replacement.
If Carr were a free agent would there be a strong market for him? Probably not.
I think there might be a good market for him. And not as a back up either. Jets, Dolphins, Bears, Lions, Steelers, Browns, Texans, Broncos, 49ers, Washington, Philly, Giants, and Saints probably would see him as an upgrade and with starting caliber QBs hard to come by, they might flip the switch. If Rodgers walks as expected, they could be on the list as well.
QB market this off season of starting caliber QB's who are not 1 step from retirement is extremely limited, I could see a lot of interest in Carr, It comes down to if he meant what he said about not wanting to play for another team, which i personally think is bullshit to show loyalty.

I said for the last two draft we needed to draft QB not necessarily to start but to develop also said that if we don’t get the playoffs this year then it has to be done for Carr
https://amp.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/2 ... -midseason
Looking at the possibly QB prospects i wouldn’t say it is a weak class i’d say there is top class talent with big one or two questions to answer about themselves, i like a few of them (Corral, Ridder & Strong) but i guess it is dependant on the type of offence we’re going to run next year.
I think Carr would have a good market aswell as teams will always see the elite performances & ignore the bad thinking it will change. That sort of stuff happens every off season as someone always thinks they can salvage things & get a certain player back to there best

look at the elite quarterbacks who can scramble
jackson - 639 yards, 2 touchdowns
allen - 322 yards, 3 touchdowns
mahomes - 227 yards, 1 touchdown
murray - 147 yards, 3 touchdowns, was out for a few games
carr - 52 yards, 0 touchdown
