Should we pursue him?
What’s his trade value?

If we were looking at making a deep run in the playoffs.... sure. We aren't. We will be doing good to win 6-7 games, IMO (hope I'm wrong). Don't waste money or draft capital for him. Keep building the way this year started with the draft and FA. Maybe next season playoffs.... the next after that... a serious run at going to the show. It takes a solid plan. I think this coach and front office knows this. We will get there but, don't sign every aging star out there.....it has never worked for us.

How many 3rd round picks would be as good as Vita statistical speaking?

Most 3rd rounders are a wing and a prayer like most draft picks.

I love draft capitol, but when you can hit a home run at a position of need, swing the bat.

Vita Vea isnt just a nose tackle. He pushes the pocket back on a regular basis & creates real pressure. The Buccaneers haven't had an edge rusher worth a damn since their super bowl win. It's made some waste of his abilities there IMO. The Raiders need a presence like that in the middle of the defense badly. Depending on what Tampa is asking, obviously, id absolutely go for Vita. Obvious move

I don't know, the last time the Raiders signed a Bucs DT it was a complete f[raiders_icon]cking pos failure and it was obvious that sob back then was just after a final pay day.

A 3rd rounder?
A 3rd and a 6th?

I’m not bringing him in to be a bandaid. I’m bringing him in to win games right now. He’s going to change life defending the run (and pass rush tbh). While that merely checks off a box on a sheet of paper (“run game…check”), it’s almost incalculable the impact it would make—easily making life better for our LBs.

To the extent he just is a bandaid whether I view him that way or not? Ok. Say he is. We get a year or two of decent NT. We draft one behind him. New NT learns system and Vea’s wisdom in camp. This appears to be a good thing.

If we strike out? Oh well. That’s going to happen in football. Can’t win every draft pick, signing, trade, etc. Vea has been reasonably healthy his entire career. If he tears an ACL or his game falls off a cliff? Hold the L and move on.

3-4 year 25 mil, with a lot of guarantees and signing bonus, aka the big contract you sign in your mid to late 20's when you've proven to be a stud, but not quite Jalen Carter.
25mil pa puts him just inside the Top 10 of DT salaries, probably dropping to the 15-20 range by the end of the contract.

By contrast, the Jalen Carter's of this world are actually earning 38mil pa. So you can get Vita Vea for c.66% of the salary of the top guys, should rumours be true.

25mil sounds a lot of money, but comparing it to the market-setting Carter contract, it doesn't seem out of whack and I'd be fine with it. Not my money and if we can make it work (which we absolutely should be able to if Mendoza is who we think he is), then I'm still for it.

The thing is; the raiders really don’t have a NT and our middle of the defense is just going to killed this season by teams running the ball up the middle; signing Vea will solve that problem…Vea is a short term option but the raiders could get three years out of him if they are lucky….

During the early rounds of the 2026 draft I kept waiting to address the nose tackle. We went in other directions which was fine, but this could be the answer and not cost a #1 or #2.

I think the team could get 4 years out of him.

So, here may be where we get the correct perspective. The average career for a third rounder in the NFL is roughly 3 1/2 years. So if we traded for Vea and got 4 years out of him (a good NT can play well into his mid to late 30s) we got value out of that trade.

Me personally, I am not making that deal because we are not ready for prime time. That said, a quick turn around in the NFL is very possible so addressing the position quickly (like next off season or in the draft) is a must if we are going to make a run. So Vea might be a move that is worth the pick. But, and this is tricky, the Bucs are not going to get a third for a guy who wants out. If it is a 4th, I jump on it now. We have some leverage in such a deal because our 4th will likely be a high 4th (essentially a deep cut third) so there is value for the Bucs to make such a deal. But I am not giving up a high 3rd for the guy.

He's 31 years old. His timeline doesn't really fit the Raiders. If he was a free agent that's one thing as they can afford to overpay him a bit but they also have to give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick. It's not a great fit for both parties as I'm sure he will get opportunities to join teams that are in a win-now window.

I know the risk of him being resigned or signed by someone else goes up as time goes on, but maybe management is waiting to see how things look during camp and pre-season games before they commit. I would hope by then they would have an educated idea of what we have.

If our current NG candidates really impress the brass, maybe they decide to go with what we have, and conversely, if the candidates look terrible we can maybe still have a shot at acquiring another NG.

Just thinking out loud.

Like someone mentioned, teams can turn around on a dime these days. Look at Chicago and New England.

The team feels like the Chicago situation. New leadership with smart moves.

If we were in a normal division I think we could turn around even faster.

We could be in the mix within 2-3 years easily. Vea could be a major part of that. I have no problem with a 3rd mixed in with a player or lower pick.
