No clue where to post some stuff not necessarily team related but could be? Feel free to delete if this belongs somewhere else.
Maxx and Parsons would be nasty. I probably wouldn’t pay the price though.

AOC is 2nd string today. In two weeks though, could be 3rd. I’m assuming the playtime between AOC and Miller will be far more equal against the 9’ers. We may be lookin’ at a good ol’ pre-season QB battle. Iron sharpens iron and all that hullabaloo.Attyla wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 8:52 am O'Connell is a backup. Whether he is QB2 or QB3 could be debated but he is QB2 on this team and he would be on as many as 12 or so teams in the league. He is serviceable in a pinch but I do not want him starting and I do not want him in games with the game on the line. He has his moments and his mechanics are decent, he just does not have a killer instinct, is slow to the line and has no pocket awareness. His deep ball can be bad, and those picks were horrible. But debating where he falls in the QB order is kind of stupid since he is a QB2 on this team and is likely going to be this season, thus he is not a third stringer, he is a second stringer.

Point is on a given team he could be seen as #3, depends who the team has, but he's 2nd team talent NFL wise currently.Attyla wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 9:36 am He is a number 2 on this team. That ends the debate that he is a number 3
If for some reason he was demoted to 3rd on our team, he could still be 2nd team with another.

Aidan has 17 games of nfl starting experience. If Geno is out for a game and they need someone to fill in and keep the team on track, they are going to AoC over a rookie who likely will not fair well initially if thrown into game action this year. Now if Geno is out for the year and the season becomes a lost cause then sure, turn to Miller and let him get his feet wet.

IMO there are three things to look for in an NFL backup QB:
1. a true veteran who can come in and be serviceable or better with very few practice reps (like a Dalton, Flacco).
or
2. a guy with some running and improvisational ability, since he's not going to have enough reps to be polished and the starter might be out because he got killed behind a porous oline.
or
3. a young player with true developmental upside who might someday be more than a backup. Getting this guy in a game might not win the game for you but it might give him some needed development and something to build upon.
I don't hate O'Connell, but I don't really see him fitting into any of the buckets. I think he's had too many opportunities to consider him a real developmental guy and he definitely doesn't fit into the other two slots.

No, I agree that he is not a first choice to be a back up. But that is where he is right now. We drafted a guy who I think fits 2 and 3 I just think they need to baby step him for a bit so O'Connell is the number 2 guy right now. All things are fluid and he could be moved down or out given what other teams do with their drops as preseason continues.chucker wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 11:13 am IMO there are three things to look for in an NFL backup QB:

Ideally Miller wins the #2 job because he's under contract for longer and has good mobility and more likelihood of future development. He likely has a long way to go though - it's a long way from North Dakota to the NFL.Attyla wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 11:19 am No, I agree that he is not a first choice to be a back up. He had a good start, like I said, his lower body mechanics were really good, some decision making was not quite there but that is expected. Don't rely on the arm, and that is what he did not do, he worked it the right way.chucker wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 11:26 am Ideally Miller wins the #2 job because he's under contract for longer and has good mobility and more likelihood of future development. Also, in Chip's offense, O'Connell is just the wrong guy. He cannot RPO to save his life.

I don’t think he would keep defenses worried at night in fear of his keeping the ball and running with it that’s certainAttyla wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 11:40 am He had a good start, like I said, his lower body mechanics were really good, some decision making was not quite there but that is expected. I just think we are heading in the right direction but the steps are going to take a bit. O'Connell is just a step we have not quite gotten to but in time we will be able to move on from him, perhaps as soon as next season. Until then he is cheap to keep and a necessary piece to slowly address over time. We have far more pressing issues with the lines. Worrying about the backup is way down the trough.Xramfan wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 12:09 pm I don’t think he would keep defenses worried at night in fear of his keeping the ball and running with it that’s certain
Get the lines fixed so Jeanty can run and other teams cannot run on us. Those are the pressing needs.
And finally, guys need to relax a bit. It was the first action under the new system, we ran a way watered down version on both sides of the ball, that is not what we are going to see in a month, not by a large margin. Get us to the Patriots, let's see what happens then.

I’ve been impatient and fed up for several years now but with our current staff, I’m content to let it ride for a long while and patiently see what develops realizing things could begin fugly. I’ll wait. PC has my confidence

Speaking of LOL.Attyla wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 9:36 am I find that most people who insist they are "right" are often fairly correct that they are right. I also find that they are the most insecure people in life. If you are right, there is no need to tell people you are right all the time. Let your words do the talking for you. But when you insist you are right when the opinion stated is subjective? That is when being "right" is an opinion and is highly debatable and that is when the insecurity really comes out. The more your opinion is challenged, the more heated they become and will remind everyone again and again how they are "right" more often than not. They just refuse to understand what "subjective" means.
I have to ask, did your SIRI pick that up and post to here while you were reciting it to yourself in the mirror?

I do not often claim to be right on anything, let alone subjective topics.BoKnows81 wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 2:59 pm Speaking of LOL.

No to be honest, you felt the sting because you, recently, have been the one running around claiming to be right all the time. Sir.

Watching a little Patriots to see what their starters look like.
So far, pretty decent. Maye seems comfortable and Henderson might be a real problem. The dude can fly.
Side note - McDaniels lost all that fat he gained here in Vegas. I really hope the Raiders put it to him week 1.
