Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide
Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

Sign him and trade Crosby. A near equal swap of talent at the same position for near equal money. The net result is that you would be swapping a 5 million $ cap hit and what amounts to our 5th round pick for a 1st and a 2nd (or a future 1st). Lets hear counter arguments.

The Bengals will not use their franchise tag on Hendrickson, allowing the veteran to hit free agency next week, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on March 3.

Every guy we bring in should serve the goal of winning a Super Bowl some time in the near future. That means, for every move we make, we should be able to clearly define how it will help us win, either directly or indirectly.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 12:36 pm Sign him and trade Crosby. Maxx will be 29 soon. It’s conceivable that we could be contenders before he is too old to contribute — it would have to be a fast rebuild, but it can be done. But even if not, he serves a purpose in the locker room. I know he’s earned his share of haters on this board, but regardless of how you feel I think everyone agrees he’s the current face of the raiders.
On the other hand, Hendrickson is 31, will be 32 towards the end of the upcoming season. It’s possible Trey will offer a high degree of leadership, but he won’t have the same “I put my balls on the line for this team” that Maxx has.
So to me, he doesn’t really check either box. He’s too old to contribute once we would likely be contenders, and he’s not someone whose voice carries the weight of personal ownership and investment that a long time raider like Maxx’s does. He would add the missing Maxx in the short term, but he won’t be significant to our long term.
The free agents we get should be young and/or serve the short term purpose of keeping Mendoza upright. I don’t mind bringing in a vet OL because that will help the long term goal of Mendoza’s development (eg even if they aren’t here for our contender years, their impact on Mendoza’s confidence will still be valuable). And I don’t mind bringing in young guys who can help as we come together as a team. And I’d love to have both (which is why Linderbaum is so popular around here).
We finally have a foundation worth building, and only a certain type of vet fits into my version of the calculus
EDIT: to be clear I’m not against trading Maxx, just not sure what kind of contract I’d give to TH. I actually don’t hate the idea you presented, gives us a plug and play guy to sustain us while we find a replacement for Maxx, just thought I’d offer what I think is the strongest counter argument

I get trading Maxx for picks if we feel he will be getting old by the time we are ready to compete. It's asinine to replace him with an older player for more money though.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 12:36 pm Sign him and trade Crosby. Kyler Murry to be cut.
Just say no, Spytek, no matter how cheap.

Could you imagine if the jets got desperate enough to bring in Geno, Murray, and Richardson and have them battle it out to be the starterraider_kin wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:23 pm Kyler Murry to be cut.

Its been argued by the Crosby supporters that a DE will perform well into his 30s. But Hendrikson wont? If they sign him to a 4 year deal what would be wrong with that? If they move on from Hendrikson after that, that money will be freed up to repurpose. The point of this sign and trade is that you are basically getting a 1st and a 2nd (at the very least) basically for free or close to it, while not net purging the amount of talent on the team immediately. To have an extra 1st and 2nd right now, without making a hole at Crosby's position would turbocharge this rebuild. If those picks hit, its not inconceivable that we could compete this year. I dont see that as asinine.FLORIDARAYDAH wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 1:55 pm I get trading Maxx for picks if we feel he will be getting old by the time we are ready to compete.
