As far as i’m concerned there are no excuses going forward

The D is playing great, for the first time in years we actually have something called a pass rush

The O-Line is starting to get a grip & play well, James was the highest graded C in the league in week 9 & Leatherwood has look the part at G

We’ve replaced numb nuts with DJax who give us the ability back to open up the field & the run game is starting to get some traction

I don’t care about all the outside bullshit your job is to play football just get it done if we cant get it done against the teams coming up that are real contenders then maybe it’s time to blow it up & start looking for our QB of the future

The next three games will go a long way to telling us all whether the Raiders are pretenders or real contenders. They must win at least two of those games. If they lose two or three of those games, then what we saw last weekend was the beginning of the slide.
Why if it was Gruden calling the shots surely he deserves a shot at bringing in his own HC & personel
I’ve always found this argument curious. Why does he deserve a fresh shot outside of Gruden?

If your statement was “it’s hard to judge how Mayock has done because of Gruden”, I’d agree. No doubt Gruden was a force.

Where I get lost is the idea that because it’s hard to judge Mayock’s performance, the natural move is to give him a chance to steer the ship and see how he does. Why? Because he found some good late round picks? I’m not sure what he’s done to warrant automatic retention, so to me that logic seems broken.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not necessarily calling for Mayock’s head either. As I acknowledged, it’s hard to tell how good of a job he’s done so if we decided to roll with him I wouldn’t be angry. But if we don’t end up keeping the current staff together, does it make sense for Mayock to hire a coach? Or should we try to hire a hot commodity head coach, one who might want a say in who is running the front office? If we have an opportunity to hire a coach like that, I wouldn’t want Mayock to be the reason a top candidate wouldn’t come here.

All of this is to say that I think Mayock’s job is largely tied to the success of this team. If we make it to the playoffs, my guess is Mark is going to try to keep as much continuity as he can. That bodes well for Mayock. If we don’t make the playoffs, things won’t be feeling as good in Henderson, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Mark rips the bandaid clean off and tries again

This is just my opinion of course and not saying they should be. Unless the Raiders totally go in the tank I think both Mayock and R.B will be back even if the team doesn't make the playoffs. Mark Davis will use the e-mails, Ruggs etc as excuses. Even 8 -9 I think they are both back...

Mark Davis will also know the real story of how much influence Gruden had over the high draft picks & how much Mayock fought against them if at all...

Davis loved the Ruggs pick. There was that video where Mark Davis asks some reporter how much do you you like Ruggs like a proud Papa...
Mark Davis will also know the real story of how much influence Gruden had over the high draft picks & how much Mayock fought against them if at all.
Exactly this^. None of us know whether it was Gruden or Mayock (or both) making the bad picks. Hell, maybe those late round picks were a team effort by a group of people whose names we don't and will never know.

If Mayock doesn't want to just GTFO (and who could blame him) as soon as he can, and he ends up staying, then it's fair to speculate that all or most of our first round busts can be laid at Gruden's feet.

I guess maybe not safely, since there's still a lot of games to play, but we haven't looked as good as this team looks really since the year we made the Super Bowl 20 years ago. The defense, for the first time since that stretch, is actually legitimate middle of the pack worthy. The offense is top half of the league.

We can look at the draft and say Mayock has done poorly there, with 2020 being as bad as it was, but: 1) Gruden had something to do with that and 2) the team is better despite that. And it's Mayock's job to make the team, overall, better, not just make splashy draft picks that may or may not have been Gruden.

I guess the question is, after 20 years of futility, we see a bit of an upward trend that really started when Mayock joined . . . what is the argument to get rid of him?

Now that someone put it to words I could totally see it happening, and it makes me physically ill to think of it.

That being said I hope we make the playoffs and have no reason to fire anybody. But if we're 8-9 after the start we had you should probably clean house.

The thing that is indefensible to me is Carr’s record when the defense holds opponents to 20 points or lower.

Also I’ve always bitched about his low TD totals. Last year he improved, this year looks like another low total unless he starts kicking ass.
