The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

McGovern would be a nice alternative to Linderbaum if he stays in Baltimore.Raidernation1979 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:23 am Free agent centers. Linderbaum or McGovern are tops on my list.

Thanks for this, i never heard that.Sold My Soul wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:13 pm “An executive for another NFL club said his team was interested in trading for Powers-Johnson, a second-year player who was drafted by the previous regime,” Kahler and McFadden wrote. “He wondered why the Raiders coaching staff wasn’t playing the young player with potential at center and had moved him to guard. When his club’s trade efforts were rejected, the executive said it was clear to him that Vegas’ coaching staff and front office were on different pages.”
“Spytek knows that he has a pretty young, talented interior lineman,” the executive told ESPN. “They are not where they want to be in that position group, but they didn’t come close to maximizing it. They actually have some good young players, and they should have been more functional.”
Brennan Carroll was the target of much ire from the fan base this season. The Raiders’ offensive line wasn’t great last season, but they somehow got worse in 2025. One agent suggested that Carroll wasn’t paying attention to the details.
“The agent also said his client said that Brennan Carroll rushed players through individual drills at practice and didn’t teach them what they were trying to achieve in specific drills,” Kahler and McFadden wrote.
Pete Carroll made a lot of mistakes this year, but relying on his son to coach the offensive line and then not holding him accountable might have been the biggest one.
I would like to add, in regards to JPJ and Grant and Rogers. Sanjit has gone through the tape on all 3 players on his youtube channel, and multiple times said JPJ's tape is really good, and hes the best lineman we have besides K. Miller. Hes made some mistakes, but mistakes that are easily coached out of him.. theres Minimal tape on Grant and Rogers, but both had very good plays and looked promissing on their game reps they did have . This was prior to this last game where grant and Rogers played most of this last game. So im expecting Sanjit to go over their tape of this last game.. i've been busy so I haven't had the time to look but Sanjit may have already done a video of grant and rogers of the last game on his channel.
Sanjit isnt just a fan that has a youtube channel. He does get paid by pros. Hes a football analyst and scout and does film breakdowns of offensive and defensive linemen. Hes founder of Elite Trench Scouting that evaluates and analyzes trench players for the NFL Draft and he is a scout for the Hula Bowl. So hes much better then most raider youtube channels.... atleast his Film breakdowns. I expect atleast one of them to start next year, maybe both....... Cappa, Meradeth, Parham, and Glaze are trash. And need to go. Which means we need 1 draft pick in round 2 or 3 in this draft and a good starting free agent olineman. I love the idea of that center from the Ravens if we can get him. Maybe WR in the 2nd round.

I’m amazed we have concluded that JPJ can’t play Center because of decisions made by Pete Carrol and his dipshit son.

It sounded more like people here wanted to put him at Guard because he's injury Prone, not just because Pete pushed him out to Guard or his retarded son. I believe he can play center, but if we did get a top center in free agency what a bonus to have JPJ playing at Guard and available as a back up centerBoJacksonRules wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:31 am I’m amazed we have concluded that JPJ can’t play Center because of decisions made by Pete Carrol and his dipshit son.

I value a more cerebral center. JPJ has great energy and power and a huge personality....... I don't get the feeling he's really a thinker. I also worry about his reliability at center due to his injury history, and guard is a far easier position to slot in a backup.

I personally still want to give JPJ a shot at center. But if you can get a guy of Linderbaum's caliber you don't look back.BoJacksonRules wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:31 am I’m amazed we have concluded that JPJ can’t play Center because of decisions made by Pete Carrol and his dipshit son.

I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing, just costly. Linderbaum or similar type talent is going to be $18m+ per year. There is no guarantee that his ceiling his higher than JPJ at Center. Even if he’s better is it worth it. I think JPJ has the potential to be a top tier Center. Don’t get me wrong if we sign Linderbaum I’ll actually be excited as there’s no question we need to add at least 2 starting caliber offensive linemen.RaiderFan1 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:37 am It sounded more like people here wanted to put him at Guard because he's injury Prone, not just because Pete pushed him out to Guard or his retarded son. This is exactly why I don’t want him at center. Has nothing to do with his physical skill set. It’s more mental and injury availability.chucker wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:40 am I value a more cerebral center. JPJ has great energy and power and a huge personality....... Guards are easier to find and easier to sub in when one goes down

i'm giving jpj a mulligan on the intelligence thing...he had shit coaching
kick the tires on getting linderbaum, but fallback plan should be to put jpj back at center and let 'er rip
guards...i'm seeing some say draft ioane r2, he'll be long gone before then

I like your take. Agreed on Ioane being gone, but you never know. If not available, Pregnon or a good OT would be a nice consolation prizeBlackShield wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:55 am i'm giving jpj a mulligan on the intelligence thing...he had shit coaching

So let me get this straight. The guy we drafted two years ago in the 2nd round, who some also had as a 1st round talent, who won the Rimington Trophy, was a first team All American, had multiple other awards and played well his first year with us, is all of a sudden too dumb to play center?! What the actual f[raiders_icon]ck are we talking about? Seems some fell into the Pete/Brennan trap of bullshit. You want to complain about his injuries (which is my concern with him)? I can agree with that. But dont tell me the guy is too dumb to play center.

Brennan Carroll said JPJ ain't got the thinking cap to be an NFL center. I am putting him at Center. That should be end of story. We going to trust the word of a guy who landed a job due to nepotism. We saw his work this season, or lack there of. Did Grant and Rogers become good overnight, maybe, maybe not, were they developed with the limited reps they saw early in the season? Probably not, they are ballers who showed have gotten chances much earlier in the season.
I'm putting JPJ at center, Spytek trashed all trade talks, because he knew, he knew when he was working in Tampa. Getting a couple of earth movers to start next to him at the guard spots. Rogers? Glaze? Prep Grant for an eventual takeover at LT by penciling him in at RT? Nevertheless, must sign an IOL and a Tackle to push these guys, and no, Cappa did not push these guys, Brennan giving the RG job to Cappa basically dug his dad's grave deeper.

This all does add up, was in discord with loads of NFL film guys, one of them said Raiders O-line is badly coached (noo shit) and are having to have extra coaching on the own. Philbin has been working with Grant and Rodgers all year. Guess that left the rest of the line to fend for themselves

after seeing JPJ talk on the Crosby podcast, I think he lacks a filter at times, and acts like he's a vet in a hierachy way, and probably said somthing to Brennon and Pete that they didn't like coming from a second year player.BoKnows81 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:12 am So let me get this straight.
