As said before it's only correct that the new FO get a chance to look at him before extensions are handed out.
No wonder Carr wanted RB, the deal would have been cemented by Mark asap. Be DC wishes it had been sorted sooner. I can't say DC is GREAT, to me he is on the upper side of good, but I get the feeling he's happy at that level and would carry on playing out his days here if he could, I can't imagine him crying into his cornflakes in 5 years time if he's retired over not winning a SB. He's uprooted his family, probably happy with the security in Vegas now and maybe doesn't want to move again, but that's no reason for the Raiders to be bullied by David with his comments or Derek with the "I want to retire a Raider" line.
If he truly doesn't want to be traded etc.... then take a cut and be a back up here if that's what the FO wants if they can get the QB they want of course, or maybe they will work wonders with DC and we will move forward with him, but NOONE should be bullying the Raiders in to contracts
The same play that Mahomes managed to execute for the OT win against Buffalo in the playoffs?
The same play where if Carr had a pump fake move would've had an easy toss into the endzone to Waller?
The same play where Carr shit himself and forced the ball to Zay Jones?
The same play where Carr was under no pressure but still got rid of the ball to a receiver a yard short of the endzone and nearly triple covered?
That play?
The game where Jackson dropped a TD that hit him in the hands?
The game where they put a TE on a DE resulting in the destruction of our QB at the 19 yardline?
The game where some asshole stepped out of bounds and we ended having the ball at the 2 instead of the 40?
The game where the oline committed 10 penalties?
The game where the 2nd leading rusher over the final 4 games of the season got 13 carries?
Yes that game I remember.

Yes that game I remember.
Let's stay focused here. Don't try to widen this to a "It was everyone else's fault'" thing. You said that the playcall was a bad one. The primary player tasked with making that play had the opportunity to make it and he didn't. That primary player was Derek Carr.
He choked.
It wasn't Olson's playcall, it wasn't Zay Jones, it wasn't the O-line. It was Carr. Olson's play had Waller, if not wide open, then one on one for a jump ball that he most likely would've won. But if Carr had ever bothered to learn and implement a simple f'ing pump fake over the course of his 8 f'ing year career, then Waller is wide open for the tying TD. That's what NFL quarterbacks are tasked with doing; with making the play when it needs to be made at the most important time. For $20 million per year, your quarterback better make that play.

It's about the win not a play. But yea Carr missed Waller I get it. Its one of the 25.
The real problem is you guys ONLY see Carr.

Is Carr being considered for a coaching position? Every dang thread here gets turned into a Carr rant fest.

FYI, some posts have been moved to here from a thread about assistants, some others in that topic were just deleted as moving posts takes longer and became too much of a task for my pay grade.
Would it be so hard to try not to turn everything into a Carr thread? If someone opens the door in a non-Carr thread with an off topic Carr comment, it would be awesome if members tried to help the conversation by ignoring it and staying on topic.
Ultimately once a few Carr comments accumulate, it becomes impossible for a few people to resist and ....... the original topic is gone.
Carr admiration, complaining and everything in between is greatly encouraged in this topic.
Thanks

Look around
I never said it was completely Carr's fault we lost that game. Not even close. What you're describing is a typical NFL game. That is, other mistakes were made, opportunities not taken advantage of, etc.
Now, look at the playoffs this year. Starting with the divisional round, in every single game, there were plays made that won those games in the waning moments. When it was all on the line, the winning team's QB stepped up and made a play when it needed to be made.
Greg Olson certainly isn't the best O-coordinator in the league, but he's been around the block more than once and he's seen this situation before. His playcall put the team in a position to succeed. Once that call was made Olson couldn't read the defense, he couldn't do any blocking, he couldn't run any routes, he couldn't throw the ball. At that point, it was up to the players, and in particular the most important player on the field, Derek Carr.
Carr had good protection and time to go to a second read, but he didn't. The ball was snapped and he whipped it to Jones before anything else had a chance to develop. It was Carr's classic tendency of one and done reading.
People are probably sick of me harping on Carr's ball handling tendencies, but it bears repeating here. Eight years in the league and his play-fake is still lazy and ineffective. This time though, it was the lack of a simple pump fake that made all the difference. Greg Olson can't do anything about that if Carr refuses to implement it into his repertoire and it cost us a chance at OT in a playoff game.
I'd rather have Carr than any other middling vet QB in the league as long as he'll take a pay cut; say down to $10 million a year. His point production doesn't justify any more than that.
IMO that is crazy to say that. Any QB who is consistent YOY starter is going to be 25+ now. He's a 30m QB, now if we can save a few million off that, great. And I'm the guy that is always on all other positions and saying 20+ mil is just too much and I'm almost always right with that. 10 million is way way under paid, like beyond even an insult and you'd be up for manslaughter 2 on Steve Young.

I get the notion and am in agreement that he’s not worth top dollar (aka 35-40 million) but I think “cutting us a break” needs some perspective. If he took a deal similar to his current one he’d be cutting us a big break.
Nobody’s gonna take a 60% haircut when they can just as easily go to a competitor and get a 30% raise.

Carr isn't going to be willing to play for that kind of money. But with respect to on-the-field, real life point production, that's what he's worth when comparing his production to other QBs. IIRC, he had 23 TD passes and 22 turnovers (ints and fumbles combined). He had a very Derek Carr-like year in terms of point production, but his turnovers were up.
Whatever the case, that particular topic appears to be moot for the time being.... well, maybe not. Lots of rumors about an extension abound, and I think giving him a big $ extension right now would be a terrible idea. I'd rather we let him play out his current contract, see how he does, and then proceed from there.

What has Carr done that is so great, that he deserves an extension? He's still under contract, he signed that contract, nobody forced him to. I understand his agents want to get paid, including Carr but there's contracts and franchise tags for a reason.
Dak Prescott was franchise tagged the year before last season. It's still in use in the NFL and I think the Raiders have the power and right to use it, if they please.
I say no to a contract extension, McDaniels and the new regime might want their own QB of the future and it might not be Carr. I think they deserve to see what they have in Carr 1st, before they make a move on giving Carr an extension.
