Kubiak, after hopefully winning the Super Bowl next Sunday, will transition to assembling his staff. The moves should come quick as presenting a staff to the interviewing team is a big part and likely most of it is good to go with some exceptions and OC/DC/QBC must comply with the Rooney Rule. Here are 6 guys that should be looked at and in some cases are very likely:
Jim Schwartz is kind of a pipe dream and seems he will free from CLE but not sure how real of an option as there isn't a known connection with Kubiak
Aden Durde is the current Seahawks DC but is not the playcaller as that job is firmly in Mike Macdonald's hands. Chance to be a playcaller and maybe even an AsstHC title could work.
Karl Scott feels like the most likely and currently serves as the Seahawks defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs and also interviewed with the Raiders last year for the DC role under Pete Carroll.
Anthony Weaver most recently was the Dolphins DC but is now free to take any DC gig and kind of in the Schwartz bucket as far as as probably unlikely.
Leslie Frazier a long time respected DC who currently serves as the AsstHC in SEA currently and makes sense if he wants to return to being a playcalling DC.
Al Harris a familiar name and up and comer to DC jobs and has interviewed across the league and currently serves as the Bears defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach. Likely staying with the Bears but will get his shot somewhere soon.
Honorable mentions/other names to watch are Rob Leonard (Raiders but imagine he follows Graham to PIT), Nick Rallis (ARZ), Aubrey Pleasant (LAR), Marcus Robertson and Joe Woods (Raiders), George Edwards (TB), Steve Clinkscale (LAC), Demarcus Covington (GB), Roy Anderson (PHI), Justin Hinds (SEA), Jeff Howard (SEA), Chris Partridge, (SEA), and if there's someway they can get the Panthers to let him go, Ejiro Evero, finalist for the HC job and worked with Kubiak in DEN.
Rob Leonard
Karl Scott
Leslie Frazier
In that order. The position nor moment is not too big for Leonard.

Teams would have to give up picks for him, and I think he wants a HC gig, not another DC job. Prob best to just put this one in the "not gonna happen" bucket.

Yea, that would be dumb. He seems highly regarded, he gets head coaching interviews often. But I think he proved that he can't elevate a defense that lacks talent, like in 2024 when they allowed the most points inf history and 3000 rushing yards. He bounced back when they got some pieces in place to mediocre, but still worries me. What he would inherit here is a defense that really doesn't have many anchors. I don't think he'd succeed with what we have to give him.

While your stat is technically accurate, the 534 points allowed by the Panthers, while being the most in history, needs context. They gave up one more point than the 1981 Colts but they did it with one extra game. The Colts are the team that gave up the most points per game in NFL history. That is a far more accurate portrayal of who's defense was the most futile in NFL history.BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 09, 2026 8:21 am Yea, that would be dumb. But my point wasn't to prove who was the worst in history, it was to plainly state that he cannot elevate a defense that lacks talent. His schemes and coaching prowess just isn't good enough. I can edit it to state he had the 2nd worse scoring defense in history if it helps. It really what I wasn't my point

I’d take the secondary coach for the Hawks as DC over this guy.

Very unlikely the Panthers let Evero make a lateral move. He's their DC for a reason, didn't get fired. What the hell do I know. I like the MacDonald/Minter scheme. Basically run two true nose tackles all game, pattern match zone. Pressure can come from anywhere. Complex defense but the calls and the player assignments are simple to learn and understand.

NFLrums is a completely unreliable source. They will post some valid information but don't believe anything they say if they were the first to say it.

You gotta have some talent and yes, you gotta get everything you can from the talent but it does start there. Coachable players who have talent makes a team. I am not saying he is a good coach but he did improve that roster and got a lot out of the players last year.BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 09, 2026 8:42 am I agree with that, yea.

Any rumors on DC candidates for Kubiak now that the Super Bowl is over ?
