I will be somewhat in the minority here, but I believe Carr is the negotiating piece on the GM/HC search. Mark went to the playoffs with him twice and I think anyone who comes here is going to be told that if they are not on board with Carr they are not going to be considered for the job. I also think Mark loves the offense, he was vocal on Ruggs being the guy he wanted. I can see Mark letting the defense hang around the 20th ranking if he can get the offense to the top 5. I can see him investing in the line and a RB/WR combo with more impact on the game. There is enough evidence out there that makes me pretty confident this is the case.
But a 5 year deal around 35M per is certainly something that is likely as well, Carr is not going to give a discount and Mark is not going to let that keep him from signing Carr
If MD is pushing players onto potential hc/gm then he hasn't learned shit from his father's mistakes
Seriously, a rookie can match his production
Building off your thought here. This got me thinking, a rookie did match his production, or at least fairly close: Mac Jones
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... neMa05.htm
Their numbers (Carr vs. Jones):
https://stathead.com/football/pcm_finde ... &request=1
Only real difference is yardage which I would guess some of which is the number of OT games for Derek.Otherwise very similar.
Setting aside Darth Hoodie for a moment (and that might not line up with what people think- he was RELENTLESS even on Brady).
Consider the offensive starters for both, and we have the added bonus of being able to compare Agholor playing for Carr for one year and then Jones the next; first the lineups:
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/LV/ ... pth-chart/
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/NE/ ... pth-chart/
Aside from Hunter Henry, they didn't really have too many stars on offense (they were 15th overall by some measures).
Now Agholor's stats in 2020 with us and 2021 with NE:
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... hoNe00.htm
He matched his highest total for TDs at 8 with us in 2020 (2017 was the other year). In 2021 he reverted to form with only 3. How much of that is related to a rookie QB? Who knows as we would have to look at the receiving stats for NE:
https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/new-engla ... =receiving
Hunter Henry accounted for close to half of NE receiving TDs so hard to get much clarity as the rest of the TDs wee scattered amongst their WR.
Some conclusions? I think you're on the right path. Statwise Carr didn't really outperform a rookie in this case Jones. I deliberately picked him as they went to the playoffs and had the same record as we did
Now I'm sure some will point to the turmoil of the season for the Raiders. IMO that is just another excuse for Carr, the latest one as it were. After all they did "rally together and win four in a row!" So if that's the case, can't it be argued that it was a net benefit? After all they did play better in adversity.
Ultimately the above won't convince anyone and I'm sure the Carr fans will either dismiss it or point to "Ruggs, Gruden etc, but statwise? It's pretty darn close.
Oh and on Darth Hoodie? Ask Tom Brady about why he left, I'm sure there are some great stories there. Bill can be an asset sure, a great coach but he also comes at a price, particularly on QBs, even one that won him 6 SB titles.
As always (for all) YMMV.

As always (for all) YMMV.
I’m not pro-resign Carr at this point but that’s just not a close comparison. 4800 yards and 3800 yards are not close. Carr accumulated something like 221 yards combined in OT. Subtract it and it’s still not close.
If you’re comparing situations:
The pats had the 9th ranked o-line per pff. We had the 28th ranked o-line.
The pats had the 8th ranked rushing attack. We had the 28th ranked rushing attack.
The pats defence generated 30 takeaways to our 15.
Like I said I’m not saying “poor Carr” as I agree we need better. Am saying let’s call an ace an ace and a spade a spade with the comparisons. Mac Jones was not close to Carr this year.

Raiders 2357 - 5th in the NFL (Poor Derek)
Parriots 1973 - 13th in the NFL
https://scores.nbcsports.com/fb/tmleade ... L&rank=231
The difference of nearly 400 yards and Derek's 221 overtime yards means easily a 600 yard difference.
So really it is closer to 4200 yards to 3800 yards. The receivers are just better in Vegas (Jacobs a better recieving back also). Give Mac a 17 million dollar value Renfrow (elite), Ruggs for half a season, and a top 5 TE in Waller for a dozen games and Mac Jones puts up equal stats imo.
Mac Jones is making 9 million next year - Derek Carr is looking at a 35 million dollar extension - four times the cost. The difference of 26 million is 1/8 of our entire cap. That helps a hell of a lot in improving our defense, offensive line, and run game to match the Patriots.
The funny thing is Bill is going to cut Mac Jones and swing again within two years (like we should be doing), Belichick won't double down on average.
Does Mac get 4 years in the same system also? Derek sure as hell needed that, he was terrible his first two years in this system. Derek is going to regress next year with a new coach, this is his ceiling.
A more fair comparison would be 2019 Carr (Second year in the same system). Mac wins that contest.
In short - No, Mac is not equal to Carr, but Mac plus 26 million 1000% is.

Couple of thoughts.
’m not pro-resign Carr at this point but that’s just not a close comparison. 4800 yards and 3800 yards are not close. Lets say you are right and round it off to 200 yards extra in OT. 800 divided by 17 games? That's 47 yards , half a football field difference each game. As we know Carr is great until the redzone, yardage, yep he's our guy. Does those 47 yards make that much of a difference? Who knows? For us it didnt really seem to matter given hsi low TD passing output vs high yardage total.

Sure those are factors. Also consider in one area: per PFF our WRs were actually pretty comparable going into the season at 26th and 27th (raiders) respectively. That's sorta borne out by the two QBs having the same amount of TDs at the end. Yardage? could be any number of factors as to why. As you note perhaps the fact that NE can run it better.
Mac Jones was not close to Carr this year.
Actually as I noted statwise yes they are as I showed. But like anything the why is up for debate IMO.

https://scores.nbcsports.com/fb/tmleade ... L&rank=231
Naturally if you throw for 1000 more yards than someone you’re probably gonna have more YAC. Carr was 5th in yards and 5th in YAC. Mac was 13th in yards and 13th in YAC. If you’re trying to honestly compare who benefitted more from YAC - look at the percentage of each guys yards that were YAC.
Mac Jones
Yards: 3801
YAC: 1937
YAC %: 51.9
Derek Carr
Yards: 4804
YAC: 2357
YAC %: 49.1
If the idea is to zero in on freebie yards, A more nuanced view is to look at the percentage of passing yards to RBs. Logic being that most passes to RBs are short and almost solely based on the RB gaining YAC.
Carr had 869 passing yards to RBs. 849 of which were YAC to further emphasize the idea of freebie yards. All in all 18.1% of Carrs yards were freebies to RBs.
Mac Jones on the other hand had 812 passing yards to RBs. Same thing - to emphasize the freebie nature, 812 of those were YAC. All in 21.3% of his yards were to RBs.
Like I said - Ace an ace and a spade a spade. Yes Mac didn’t have great receivers but that was about the only weak spot on their team (also not a great spot for us either). 9th ranked line. 8th ranked rushing attack. #2 defence in points. #3 defence in turnovers. And he put up 1000 fewer yards while actually having a higher share of his passing yards attributed to YAC.
Thats not poor Carr that’s just reality. I’m not a fan of paying Carr 35 million dollars a year either and am also not opposed to drafting a guy (Pickett or Willis). But man…. Mac Jones is not close to Carr right now
Raiders 2357 - 5th in the NFL (Poor Derek)
Parriots 1973 - 13th in the NFL
The difference of nearly 400 yards and Derek's 221 yards means nearly a 620 yard difference.

Carr did take 100 more attempts to even get the yards he did, if yards are all we are looking at. I am more into TDs, turnovers, TD%, Int% myself. The things that actually affect a win loss rate and those are even up or close enough to it. Yards mean very very little, there is not a more empty stat. Bortles had a 4500 yard season.
Again as well, this was four years in the same system Carr compared to a second year starter. Mac will improve next year - Carr will regress. I guarantee that.
If we are going to drag average to the playoffs, we better put a hell of a team around that guy. Mac is 9 million next year and 5 the year after. The Patriots have two years to sort the next starter if they need to, while having a ton of cap to find and keep the right free agents to make a run, and I would much rather be in their shoes.
