I’m not gonna look through the last 7 pages of this cry session but Geno also asked for a trade on Thursday according to multiple sources when contract talks stalled. It’s not like we blew them away with the 92nd pick, they had Geno and DK asking for trades, I’m sure they wanted this done asap.

I think Darnold ends up in Seattle and at best it’s a lateral move but most likely a downgrade. Sam is gonna get pummeled and “see ghosts” with the Seattle line.
Bottom line is our QB problem is now solved (except maybe for a backup if the new staff doesn't care for AO12). It only cost us a third-rounder that was a bonus anyway (Davante was always going to be cut this month, whether by us or another team), and we can now concentrate our draft focus on the DBs, DTs, and OGs that will immediately improve our team.

And Smith's never had a TE like Bowers to throw to.
The mere addition of Smith doesn't solve our QB problems...he isn't taking us to the promised land.
How does a 35 year old QB "solve" our quarterback problem?
Why do people keep acting like 35 is old for a QB nowadays. The game is designed to keep them healthy. We were gonna give Stafford whatever he wanted and he’s 38. Plus Geno sat for years so he doesn’t have 15 years of gameplay wear and tear on his body. I see no issue with Geno being able to play at his current level for 3 more seasons, that’s plenty of time to groom a replacement.
How does a 35 year old QB "solve" our quarterback problem?
He can be a good starter for us for the next few years. He gives us time to draft a real project at QB like Milroe (for instance) and bring him along slowly without throwing him in the flames. Alternatively, we push off the QB problem for a year or two entirely and know Smith will do a good job. He's a tremendous improvement over O'Connell (who has definitively shown he is not an NFL starting QB -- he just isn't) and gives us a guy you can with with, and occasionally because of.

Bottom line is he improves our team for this year and next more than the third-rounder likely would have.

Three things I like about this trade .

1. We don't have to force a pick for Sanders or Ward. Either at six or moving up.

2. We can go BPA at one and still draft a project QB rounds 2-4.

3. Takes us out now the Darnold talks. I think Darnold could be solid, maybe even a bit better than Geno. However, paying Darnold 45illion a year with large guarantees is questionable.

Two things I don't like.

1. I don't like the fact this will keep us mediocre rather than a contender Not that there was any move to be made this year that would have. However, I am so sick of losing 10 and 7 and a wildcard birth would make me ecstatic.

2. An extension worries me. The right money and years and extension would be understandable. 40+ million with guarantees beyond a year and a half would be problematic for me
The mere addition of Smith doesn't solve our QB problems...he isn't taking us to the promised land.
So it’s win 4 games or win the Super Bowl? Most teams, if they’re lucky win a SB once every 20 years or so, that’s a lot of 4 win seasons. How bout wining double digit games, remember that feeling? Wouldn’t that be nice? How bout playing games that mattered in the final month of the season? I think some of us are taking the little things for granted around here. Super Bowls lol, how bout wining a f[raiders_icon]cking playoff game?

Geno is not a solution, he is a means to an end. He gets us down the road a couple years while making us look respectable and during that time we can continue to build the roster and take a shot or two at the next generation at the position. Face it fellas, this has long been the Raider way dating back to Plunkett and even the Mad Bomber.
Stafford probably would have cost more in a trade as well.

I don't hate this as much this morning either, I was just looking forward to having a great draft now that we have competent management. And we now have one less PREMIUM pick.
I think we woulda kissed #37 plus more comp away with Stafford.

All were guys we plucked away from other teams for little or no compensation and did quite well for us.

For the famous thread saying our next QB needs legs, well there you go.

Actually here is a pretty good graphic that shows QB running abilities. Gen pick up 17 first downs with his legs last season.
https://thejetpress.com/ny-jets-draft-p ... jnsm70b5vn
Pick 92 is 4 picks away from the 4th round(not sure what the compensatory picks look like at end of round), if that makes people feel better.

Edit: There appears to be 5 compensatory picks at end of round so 9 picks away from 4th round total.
