So if we lose this week, is it Mendoza time?

....without knowing where he is as far as being 'ready', it seems just a little early, but I guess it also depends on how we might lose, were we to.

....it seems like you would need more of a reason to make the change at this time, than a tough loss to the chiefs and a hypothetical loss on the road to the losers of the most recent championship game, but again, see above.....

The best thing about this unexpected start is probably that we have the #1 overall pick QB on the bench who hasn’t taken a snap yet.

I think there are several factors we would have to look at (winning and pissing of Cousins, is the OL going to keep him from getting the snot beat out of him, is the running game improving, etc.). I think KK has to at least give Fernando a scripted series and spoon feed him from there. This way he will be ready if and when he is called upon (most likely if Cousins gets hurt which is almost a certainty). I have been VERY impressed with Cousin's pocket awareness (both Fernando and Aidan should be paying attention). He knows when to step up into the pocket and when to roll out. He is also very tough. Cousins took a dozen hits this past weekend despite KK calling short routes for our receivers. This is not something I think we should expose Fernando to on a full time basis in the immediate future.

Week 12 starts our easiest run of the season. I think Cousins gets the nod for a while longer unless we rattle off 4 or 5 losses in a row

So glad we got Mendoza after watching this group of disappointing prospects this year.

Elite State Farm commercial.

I'm glad we didn't wait.

If Mendo doesn’t take the momentary “hezzy”, he’d have had a first down.

I replied the same in the college thread, but looking at the last 5 drafts, the only one Mendoza isn’t the definite #1 pick in is 2024.

He was sharp in his limited reps. It was against a prevent D but it seems like he had a good command of the playbook and he looked like he belonged out there.

Preseason was discouraging, but it appears he's learned a lot since then. Sitting behind an experienced QB like Cousins has likely been good for him,

We should be especially glad we didn't end up with the #1 pick in 2025

Perfect example of why, even if you need a qb, you don't necessarily have to pick one first overall or even use a top pick on one. I didn't think Ward was very good in college (stats don't mean a player is good) and certainly wasn't close to be the top overall pick

On a side note, from that draft I wanted one of Banks, Carter, Campbell, Graham, Membou or McMillan. Obviously a couple of them were gone and going to be unrealistic to draft. We drafted the one guy I wanted nothing to do with lol
