JSN is a monster...and I love the way Seattle moves him all around the field as the ball is snapped.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:20 am Overall, the Seahawks' offense was eighth in points per game and yards per game, sixth in yards per play and second in net yards per pass attempt. Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (NFL-leading 1,793 receiving yards) both made the Pro Bowl.

I wonder if Shaheed follows him as he’s kind of followed Kubiak from NO to Seattle.

Cousins has a good history with Kubiak. I wonder if he can't get a starting gig anyway, he comes here and is our bridge QB.
I have to believe he'll get a chance somewhere though.

Running back Kenneth Walker III would be nice, but the cost could be too much with other areas needing priority.

We do not need a bridge. We need a backup who is solid but a system guy. Kubiak's system likes QBs who can roll out and fire. But make no mistake, Mendoza will almost certainly be the starter day one. He is NFL ready so he needs the reps.BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:46 am Cousins has a good history with Kubiak. Walker is a starting nfl rb, he's not coming to be jeantys backup.Rabidraider wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:49 am Running back Kenneth Walker III would be nice, but the cost could be too much with other areas needing priority.

A diamond in the rough backup RB might be found on day 3.

...and in addition to whatever we will still be on the hook with geno, whatever cousins would still demand as a 'bridge', could be used to fill some other holes....

Kubiak is taking the job with Mendoza being a big reason why. He’s going to implement a plan to work with his strengths and slowly bring him and his confidence along while adding pieces to support this.BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:46 am Cousins has a good history with Kubiak. You don’t waste a year of a 1st round QBs cheap rookie contract if you have no other QB to go with. We don’t. This isn’t KC where they sat Mahomes because they had Alex Smith.

I think so too, but I struggle coupling that with knowledge of Kubiak's system, which is heavily reliant on play action. This isn't something Mendoza is going to be proficient at for a while. I don't see Kubiak changing what he does to accommodate RPO's. I'm just struggling to see exactly how he would accommodate his system for a rookie QB who doesn't even have the muscle memory for play action drop backs.Viper wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:06 am Kubiak is taking the job with Mendoza being a big reason why. The simplest solution that I can see is using a bridge QB until he's ready. Which we also know Brady will be pushing for.

IMO we don't want or need a bridge to win games for us. IMO Cousins doesn't have interest in being a mentor. Why would we invest in a bridge we don't need to be an uninterested mentor?BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 7:46 am Cousins has a good history with Kubiak. And if we need a starter because we want to ease Mendoza in, just start O'Connell or whoever we choose as a mentor. Winning games with that guy is not important.Viper wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:06 am Kubiak is taking the job with Mendoza being a big reason why. Why would Brady be pushing for a bridge? I think that is the exact opposite of what Brady wants. And Brady is an owner, not a coach. It is the coach's job to put the players on the field. I seriously doubt Kubiak wants to sit his shiny new toy. The history of first overall QB picks dating back quite a long time is that those guys play. The days of guys sitting is over. And Indiana plays a spread offense. It does contain some RPO but they mostly play a spread. Mendoza may not have played under center much and he needs to get his footwork fixed for that but that is the QB coach and OC's job to fix. And they will have time to do some of that before he starts week 1.
Best thing for Mendoza is to ramp up his game and that is done on the field. Hell, Ward started week 1 under the "QB whisperer" and he survived and he is not half the QB Mendoza is. Honestly, we do not need a bridge, we need a backup and a good one. Not some has been QB like Cousins history be damned.

I'm confident our Yale qualified QB can pick up the intricacies of play action in little time. It ain't rocket science.BotesBoats wrote: Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:39 am I think so too, but I struggle coupling that with knowledge of Kubiak's system, which is heavily reliant on play action. He even talks about getting advice from Peyton Manning on play action here.
