Compare Vita to Vince Wolfork. He played until 35 I think. As I recall he held up pretty well for them. Cost is key.

Rumor has it he wants a top-tier DL contract as if he's 28 and prime. 25 mil per, 3-4 contract, lots of guarantee/signing bonus.

And we know that they are planning on signing and keeping their QBJRaider17 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 8:33 am Keep in mind, Bucs are currently dealing with a Baker situation as well. Might be tough to keep both.

All comes down to compensation. I'm less concerned about age with a Nose Tackle. I think we'd get the true compliment to Maxx on defense that we've been needing for the next 3 years. I'd have to guess it's going to only be a middle round pick since his new team will need to pay him.

All going well we have our franchise QB on a rookie contract, so the timeline works perfectly well, if maybe a year early for us to make a splash.SkullCrusher wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 9:04 am Rumor has it he wants a top-tier DL contract as if he's 28 and prime. 25 mil per, 3-4 contract, lots of guarantee/signing bonus.
Problem is Vea won't be available next year, so if we don't get him now then we still have major NT hole next year.
For me, lets take the proven quality now, and use the draft to fill other holes and provide quality depth.

Here's the main problem I have, he's already insisted on more money/long contract and that's fine if he demands that from the Bucs who still have him under contract...BUT, instead of taking that sensible route, this guy also says he wants a trade ? That tells me quite a bit about the individual, and it's not a good look.
Is that really the kind of individual that the Raiders should welcome with open arms and be in our locker room?

Believe voted defensive Captain since 2022, long time Buc, and these negotiations have dragged out for a long time.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 11:33 am Here's the main problem I have, he's already insisted on more money/long contract and that's fine if he demands that from the Bucs who still have him under contract...BUT, instead of taking that sensible route, this guy also says he wants a trade ? Another assumed Bucs lifer, Mike Evans, also walked this off-season.
Maybe there's some disrespect coming from up top that as seeing even the most loyal look for the door.
Yes, I think he'd be welcomed with open arms and there's nothing to suggest he'll be an issue if he did.

But that's just it, I believe there is a reason he might be an issue, and I outlined my reasons why.Lecomp wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 11:40 am

He's a good player but as far as I can tell he's not even a top 10 DT, and though we may have the cap space I don't think we should waste it by overpaying/overextending for an older tackle AND give up draft capital too?
Beside, like I said, I think it's possibly moot anyway because I don't think TB will let him go without fleecing someone.

Bucs drove Evans out when he said time and again he wanted to retire a Buc, and apparently are playing hardball with Baker as well. Vea is the glue in that Tampa locker room so if he wants out I'd say there is more to it than him being a cancer.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 11:33 am Here's the main problem I have, he's already insisted on more money/long contract and that's fine if he demands that from the Bucs who still have him under contract...BUT, instead of taking that sensible route, this guy also says he wants a trade ? I may be in the minority here but I think he’s still a top 10 player in the league at his position. I just don’t think he’s fits in our time frame and how it appears we’re trying to get younger.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 12:10 pm But that's just it, I believe there is a reason he might be an issue, and I outlined my reasons why.

I’d prefer to address it in the draft next year personally.

He may have said he wanted to retire a Buc (posturing) but he sure took a lot of SF's money and he's not the same receiver as he once was, he'll be 33 next month, and there are injury concerns. Mayfield?...I read earlier that both sides have called off negotiations.NoThanksSir wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 12:18 pm Bucs drove Evans out when he said time and again he wanted to retire a Buc, and apparently are playing hardball with Baker as well. I see what you're saying, I just don't put so much stock into those reasons as the bucs have recent history of upsetting franchise stalwarts. Looks like Vea and Baker are next in following Mike Evans if they had their way.raidersince63 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 12:10 pm But that's just it, I believe there is a reason he might be an issue, and I outlined my reasons why.

That said, completely agree that Bucs will either fleece someone or end up paying him, so pretty moot.
Fun to talk about/dream anyway.. it's the off season!

Trading for Vea doesn't stop us drafting one. We need depth and can never have too many good bodies up front.Viper wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 12:23 pm I may be in the minority here but I think he’s still a top 10 player in the league at his position. I'm for building through the draft, but we also need to take advantage of Mendozas rookie contract. Can't always wait for EVERYONE to be developed. At some point you just need to inject proven talent, and this is an opportunity to do so at a position of need.

Yeah, there's no secret that we could use someone as a solid NT, I just don't see Vita as the smarter move.
And like you said, there's the draft and other opportunities down the road and for now, we also need to see if our off season moves are as good as we hope.
