Gruden's Glossary
For football junkies, pretty fascinating stuff. Say what you will about Gruden, but he's an encyclopedia of football knowledge and his passion is unmatched.

Armando Salguero got it wrong. They would have to go through the Saints and the Colts are not going to risk a tampering charge. If they talked to Carr, it was after they got permission from the Saints, there would be no way they would bypass that step.

So "reportedly" equal fact?
Either way I'm surprised the Colts didn't just offer a 7th rounder, should have been more than enough for Carr.

Shane Steichen and Phillip Rivers are friends and have a history. I doubt Carr was ever considered.

yea, as noted, the trade deadline had passed. The only way it happens is if the Saints released him. And that is another reason why the Colts would have had to have gone through the Saints. People will believe anything.Willmark wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 3:58 pm So "reportedly" equal fact?

The funny part in all this? Our number 1 Carr supporter is no different than Okie continuing to believe in Jamarcus long after it was clear he wasn’t the guy.
Perfect one to one? No but the parallels are there.

Did “Okie” say everyone including the moderators are clowns, then shit on the entire forum on her way out the door to another football team’s forum where she was laughed at and ridiculed for being the same dipshit fangirl as here?Willmark wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 5:46 am The funny part in all this? The point is: replace anytime Carr is brought up by his number 1 fan? Replace the Carr’s name with Jamarcus and the reasoning is the same. “In bad situations, just needed better coaching, just needed X.”GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 7:49 pm Did “Okie” say everyone including the moderators are clowns, then shit on the entire forum on her way out the door to another football team’s forum where she was laughed at and ridiculed for being the same dipshit fangirl as here?
All the while never acknowledging that yes, that was and is still is true, but doesn’t change the fact that in either players case their failings are theirs and theirs alone.
Jamarcus was likely the #2 greatest bust of all time behind Ryan Leaf.
Carr while not a bust, he is unheralded in a weird way: a slightly above average QB that helped his team stay consistently mediocre draft wise and in terms of wins. He’s closest comparison is Andy Dalton and all that entails. An average (at best to slightly above) QB who was never good enough to become elite or was never bad enough to wash out completely.
In an odd way it was likely fortunate for him he was taken by the Raiders. Anywhere else? Doubt he would have lasted as long.

Fans have a strange quirk of latching on to a player and developing tunnel vision regarding his limitations and flaws. You are rooting so hard for him that objectivity gives way to hopes and dreams. Carr was an easy kid to like and he showed just enough potential to justify his fans to believe in him or look back on his Raider career with some revisionism.
I was guilty of that with Todd Marinovich. I followed his short career at USC. I was in the stands in Pullman, WA when he connected on a clutch 4th and 16 throw over the middle to keep USC's drive alive and finish off the comeback.
It took Stabler 4-5 seasons to mature into the player he became. I was convinced that Marinovich would be the Gen X's version of Snake. The similarities were eerie. Same type of passer, same type of free spirit, same number, both were Southpaws. They both began their careers play second string the type of QB Al coveted and both were the types of QB's Al was always skeptical of given his vertical game beliefs. Maybe this expectation set up Todd to fail, journalism was turning into 24-7 news cycles, it just wasn't the social climate of the 1970's any more the spotlight was bigger and Los Angeles was bigger.
But,...Derek Carr was given 9 seasons to become what he wasn't. Fact's are stubborn things.
