College Football Thread - 2026
It’s that time of year for us to dog fight about who’s college team is better.
Best way to start it out IMO is with the preseason coaches poll that just dropped:
Preseason Coaches Poll
1.Ohio State
2.Oregon
3.Georgia
4.Texas
5.Notre Dame
6.Indiana
7.Miami
8.Texas A&M
9.Oklahoma
10.Ole Miss
11.Alabama
12.Texas Tech
13.LSU
14.USC
15.BYU
16.Michigan
17.Penn State
18.Tennessee
19.Washington
20.SMU
21.Utah
22.Iowa
23.Clemson
24.Houston
25.Missouri
We all know who are backing after that last few years but the 2026 season is almost upon us.
For my own part, this year is special I’m attending my first home game ever at ND on 9/12.

This wouldn't be a reason for me not to like CFB, that can happen in any football game.Atlasffa wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2026 6:02 pm Yeah, not a good look at all. I use to like CFB. Not so sure anymore.
Also taking the opposite pov on the hit for arguments sake. Both the NFL and CFB have made it so comfortable for QB's to just run around the field and get preferential treatment. This doesn't happen with RB's (typically) because they don't slide down last second with a defender already with a bead on. They say we'll it's the QB you should let up on the hit, I always say why? Not saying I want that hit, but damn if I saw a QB running, I'm going to hit them as hard as I can with a legal hit. The Kings running lose on the chess board... go!

It wasn't the hit that turned me off--QB was sliding late, bang-bang, have to be gritty if you are going to run as QB. Unfortunately, it looks bad when the QB gets hurt. The tackler's reaction, and the reaction of his teammates, afterward was far more disturbing. If they want to laugh and get hype about it in the locker room, okay, I guess, but doing it on the bench, not a good look in the spirit of good sportsmanship, a quality that is less and less important as these types of incidents keep happening. This one incident isn't THE reason I'm discouraged about CFB but does encapsulate some of the reasons. I'm discouraged about money becoming more important to the athletes than education, and school pride, and school spirit, and loyalty, and bonding with coaches and teammates, and humbleness, etc., etc. There's pretty much only one factor for 3+ star athletes--how much money will you pay me. And if they think they are under compensated, well there's a solution for that too; get more $ or enter the transfer portal. Makes college ball bear the brunt of being the AAA of the NFL for D1 schools. Colleges should not bear that responsibility.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2026 1:45 pm This wouldn't be a reason for me not to like CFB, that can happen in any football game.

I think there's some middle ground that can be found between compensating students fairly and suspending them for receiving a sandwich from an agent. Hopefully, with a sane NIL plan, would come sane transfer portal regulation. It's the wild west right now and it doesn't encourage me to cheer for players who really don't care which school they play for as they get enough money.
And if you are wondering, approx NIL for Dante Moore $5 million; Desman Stephens at $425,000. I'll add that Colin Simmons of Texas, the player who got a 15 yard penalty for "simulating the act of going to the bathroom" on the field Saturday, receives more than $2.4M in NIL and endorsement deals.

Oh yeah the after part was total lack of humanity. I could see a person get more than a one game being a jackass like that.
But jackasses are everywhere.
What would get me with college would be more NIl/Player Moving/Greed/Cost of Games.

Hard to discipline a kid who makes more than coaches and will have all his sponsors calling them up to let them know they hold the purse strings for their salaries as well. Wild, wild west. Increases the jackass count on the team.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2026 2:40 pm Oh yeah the after part was total lack of humanity. What sport was it Hockey considering you take someone out with a cheap-shot, you stay out as long as they are out?

Meh. One game for both those guys (Stephens and Simmons) seems like weak sauce to me. They want to make sure they have juice in the tank for their natty run later in the season so no big deal to sit out a game, no lesson learned. Unranked opponents next week.

This is the reason I got the most pissed off at this player. The hit was a cheap shot which is usually delivered by punks. But his reactions and his teammates reactions laughing and high fiving after the play all the while Moore is laying on the field still and no one knows how injured he is, he could have been paralyzed for what anyone knew at the beginning and when that punk and his teammates were celebrating and acting all badass. That bullshit right there is what pissed me off. No sportsmanship. Just no class, little punk trying to act warrior while the gutless cheap shot he delivered could have really permanently injured another player.Atlasffa wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2026 2:30 pm It wasn't the hit that turned me off--QB was sliding late, bang-bang, have to be gritty if you are going to run as QB. One game suspension for one player for disgracing the school's name. Weak.ELCAraiderfan wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2026 4:54 pm This is the reason I got the most pissed off at this player. Yes, exactly. I know we are both not surprised as this is where society is at and has been for some time. Just like reed and the chiefs looking the other way at criminals so long as they can play at high level and help the team.Atlasffa wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2026 4:58 pm One game suspension for one player for disgracing the school's name. I am looking forward to the Ohio State-Iowa game. Kinnick isn't an easy place to play and Iowa has a good shot at an upset.

Never got to see the Raiders throttle Darth Hoodie, this will have to do.
