Was a very reliable player at Michigan State after being named Michigan's Mr. Football as a HS senior. Left college a year early and has spent most of his time on PS and a little of his time activated for Steelers and Seahawks. He's been that 54th man kind of guy who has been unable to get a break through opportunity . Lots of potential to tap.

Such an insightful post.

So all the other released players at most had 2 claims, but some, we don't know how many, only had 1 out of 32 teams. But the only player with 4 claims was claimed by us the very first team out of all 32 to be able to put a claim on him. While obviously it's not a perfect science, this tells you that all the other teams spend a lot of time and money to know what is going on out there.

True, I took a look at all the DT's awarded, nothing that would warrant one of ours own being booted.

It is tough to find receivers after the cuts, same with DL players worth a damn. I know we like to think we can go down to the receiver store and look on the top shelf way way back and find Jerry Rice hiding back there but it does not happen. And thinking that teams are going to drop good players because they are overloaded is a myth most the time as well. While you might find a serviceable bit of depth, there is almost always a reason a player is released during the cuts that make that guy not that worthy of taking, well unless you are the Dolphins I guess.

Given the passing game today, most teams are hoardin.....I mean keeping 6-7 WRs. DT's are there any to be projected in the Top 10 next year?

The top end guys are certainly there. NT in particular, there are two guys who may go high. The depth guys are thinner though. I am pretty sure we are going to need OL, WR and DL all of which will be urgent needs so I see us going OL and WR way before we go DL which is sad for me because the top 2 are going to be day 1 starters.

some day someone is going to realize that taking former Raiders is not how to build a champion level team most all the time

Signed WR Ronnie Bell, G Evan Neal and DE Azeez Ojulari to the practice squad; *Released DE Jahfari Harvey, T Kamar Missouri and TE Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. from the practice squad.*

--

Ojulari obvi appears to be an upgrade, but Harvey had some spark.
Maffi, Neal and Henning all play or project as guards... no developmental OT?

Not a big knower of Evan Bell, but he's still young and was a high draft pick a few years ago. Hes huge and can play tackle. But theres many complete busts like him like that and judging from some reactions have implied he is a big one (bust, terrible). Since I haven't followed him I dont know, but wonder if hes salvageable by Denison and company. Hes on the practice squad, so not a big risk or anything.

Its a new start for him and the Raiders have a strong history of resurrecting players careers.
I think a good start for him would be to drop 20 as he's always listed somewhere around 340-345.

The practice squad could be filled with players who have potential to start in the league or have started.
No more 4th string blocking dummies with zero chance.

Evan Neil may get plucked to a starting roster after a few healthy practices unless there's some kind of practice squad protection plan?
