Fire Pete Carroll
I didn't see a thread yet, I wanted Pete to be able to stay a few years to rebuild us back, but it is clear to me that he is clueless on how to fix what is broken. We have made the same mistakes every week, with no corrections. He has to go! Thoughts?

Anybody else I say three years; but Pete is 74 going on to 75….and the killer is he put his son in charge of offensive line….which is worse in the NFL and his son is still coaching the lineKillerRaider30 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 10:13 am I think coaches should be given 3 years to build a team. Pete has had less 1.
The team was a shit show when he arrived. Give him a chance to build a team.

Bring in a nobody like Philly OC…no more High Profile coachesOpoponax50 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 8:17 am Yikes. That is not an impressive list. Most of the guys on that list that are already in the NFL are defensive coordinators, and the OCs have had mediocre success. Same with the college coaches.
Pete may be kept on simply due to the lack of options. I could easily see any one of those guys absolutely bombing and there doesn't appear to be a QB guru anywhere.

Saleh and Minter are two that I'm interested in. Saleh was in a no-win situation in NY and despite that he had the team playing hard with a top 5 defense that turned into one of the worst immediately after he was fired. The man knows defense. Minter doesn't have the experience but I'm sure he would be able to sort out the defense and seems to be highly regarded. Clearly OC would be an important hire but I don't have an issue with a defensive coach as it's worked well in Seattle and NE. There currently doesn't appear to be a lot of great options for coaches from the offensive side of the ball.Opoponax50 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 8:17 am Yikes. That is not an impressive list. We need forward thinking offensive guys. Kubiak or cooter are my top 2. They both value the run game and have some nice pass concepts. Kubiak had excellent playcalling in the end of the game last night.
Paid one of them with Mendoza and a rebuilt o line and we may have some light at the end of the tunnel

We have light at the end of the tunnel right now. It's the train coming right at us.Raidernation1979 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 1:50 pm We need forward thinking offensive guys. His son, STILL “coaching” the offensive line is nail-in-the-coffin for me.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:54 am He took last year's "shit show" and somehow found a way to make it even worse. The game has passed him by.
The only reason to keep Carroll isn’t for stability at the HC position, it’s to lock in another top 5 draft pick.

Agreed and Saleh, if you can convince him, would be the hire. He’s proven himself, especially with an injury riddled squad he’s currently coaching. He’s young enough to see a rebuild to the end.heavyD wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 1:46 pm Saleh and Minter are two that I'm interested in. I just have serious doubts on whether he would take the job, no matter for how long or how much was offered.

If the raiders have the number one pick and they going to draft a QB with it; it a big selling point; because your starting QB is on a rookie deal in which is not really going to hurt regarding salary cap for least three years….Viper wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 5:11 am Agreed and Saleh, if you can convince him, would be the hire. So Saleh probably would come Vegas on a three year deal if the raiders draft Mendoza; but everyone got to be understand that this is rebuilding plan; where we might end up going 3-14 next year also…

To add to this. Things would have to go horrible to be any worse than we are now. There's no delusions of playoffs. And with drafting a QB you aren't saying it's a band aid almost guaranteeing multiple years of job security. I would say 3 at minimumSuperRaider wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 6:04 am If the raiders have the number one pick and they going to draft a QB with it; it a big selling point; because your starting QB is on a rookie deal in which is not really going to hurt regarding salary cap for least three years….

Trade Max for a few picks, hire an OC or DC to groom for to take Pete’s spot in 27.
Get a QB and build the DL/OL and the rest of the roster for the new Head Coach in 27.
26 is not going be a good year for any coach that would be take Pete’s place.
Keep Pete and focus on 27.

Move on, the new coach gets a mulligan for next year as the team continues to add talent through the draft in '26 and '27. New coach gets, at minimum, 3 years to start seeing real progress. Spytek stays in place for all of those years.islandboy wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 8:57 am This may not be a bad idea.

There's more to a coach's first year than trying to win, or trying to get a high pick in the draft. He's also part of building a roster for the future. If you're planning to move on from Carroll anyway, then start now and move on from his roster-construction preferences or your next coach will spend 2027 trying to model his own roster instead of getting a start on that in 2026. For example, tall DBs have a place in the league, but that doesn't mean that we need to stick to that Pete Carroll model for our next coaching staff.

We're conditioned to assume that it will take forever to improve this team - because it's taken forever already and we still aren't there. We need to reach higher than that. That doesn't mean we should try to take shortcunts to being competitive by signing aging vets, but we've seen teams go from also ran to competitive in a year. The Texans and Commanders are two recent examples who drafted a QB and instantly became competitive. The Pats already had a QB, but did it this year.islandboy wrote: Sat Dec 20, 2025 8:57 am This may not be a bad idea.

Raise your expectations, despite our grim history. And don't wait to change coaches if the decision has already been made.
