That is why you interview. And that is why you vet people, to get those answers. He is obviously a person of interest to more than one team.RaiderFan1 wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 4:18 am What makes him a legit candidate ? The fact that he has never been an offensive coordinator and has never called the plays for an NFL game ? Thats the guy you want to entrust with Bringing Mendoza along and developing him ? So what will you say when we are 1 - 5 next season, blame it on Mark Davis ?hell Even Kubiak is high Risk with only this year being successful as an OC. Again I'll ask, what makes him a Legitimate candidate besides one guys tweet ?

Mainly that I haven’t yet found a bad thing said about him and all I keep coming across is speaking to how he will eventually be an OC or HC due to talent and intelligence for the coaching position. You’ll also find plenty spoken about his excellent handling of young QB’s.RaiderFan1 wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 4:18 am What makes him a legit candidate ? Btw, “one guys tweet”? Just because that’s all the information you’ve gathered by visiting the forum, doesn’t mean that’s all that’s ever been said about the guy. For f[raiders_icon]ck sake dude, watch some shit. Read somethin’. Find out for yourself.
Or, we can just keep doing what we always do, get a guy who’s career is coming to a close rather than about to open.

Your post reminds me of the same fear-fueled bullshit that has people think we shouldn’t draft a QB in the 1st round because “we don’t know if he’ll be any good”. Yeah man, it’s the unknown. Going with the known commodity hasn’t done a f[raiders_icon]cking thing for this franchise. The company we’ve been keeping is dogshit.RaiderFan1 wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 4:18 am What makes him a legit candidate ? The more I’ve learned about Davis Webb, the more I think he’s exactly what Spytek, Mendoza, this franchise, needs.

I am not saying Raiderfan1 does not have a valid argument. However it is sometimes far better to take a chance on the unknown rather than go with the known (fool me twice).

Webb is interviewing with the Ravens today. Sucks to be on the outside looking in, maybe if we hadn't churned through 14 coaches in the last 22 years we wouldn't be so shit.

Yep, it is a legit question, but again, the answers lie in the interview process. Sure, teams talk and players and coaches talk. I am sure his name was being bandied about. That happens. That is almost certainly part of the reason he has become the target of interviews. But it is the interview where he talks about how he does his job and what his practices going forward are. That will give Spytek the info to either move forward or move on.RI RAIDER wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 5:20 am I am not saying Raiderfan1 does not have a valid argument. Vance Joseph is one Rooney Rule interview.
Anyone have any idea who other one will be so we can make a hire?

This has probably already been said but considering that there are so many coaching openings, and considering how dysfunctional the Raiders have been for so long, I can't imagine why any coach in his right mind would want to come to Vegas to attempt to fix the mess we are in.
With so many other options out there, the more highly valued coaches will likely take jobs with teams in a more attractive situation than the Raiders. If this happens it appears that once again, the Raiders will have to "settle" for someone other than their first choice.
As far as interviewing coaches for the job, more often than not, the interviewee will be sharp enough know what kind of answers to questions the team may pose to him and he might simply tell the team what he knows they want to hear, with hopes of landing the job.
Plus, there are so many different takes on just who is really calling the shots in Vegas, I would think that would be a red flag for most coaching candidates. All in all, I'm not very confident that we will get the right guy...hope I'm wrong, but that remains to be seen.

Every single team looking for a new coach is a shit show to some degree, that's why they have fired their previous coach. I could argue that there are at least a couple of teams that are as bad, if not worse, than the Raiders ( Browns, Jets, Cards). See the forest through the trees.raidersince63 wrote: Thu Jan 08, 2026 5:47 am This has probably already been said but considering that there are so many coaching openings, and considering how dysfunctional the Raiders have been for so long, I can't imagine why any coach in his right mind would want to come to Vegas to attempt to fix the mess we are in.

Well, the benefits are numerous right now. First overall draft pick and a prime candidate for QB right at the top. A shit ton of cap space and an owner willing to spend it all. Tom Brady active (at least that is what we are being told) and the training wheels being taken off of Spytek. Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty on rookie deals. One of the nicest facilities in the NFL. Those is the positives.
The negatives? A total disarray at most every other position. An owner who is vastly in over his head and with a quick trigger to fire coaches. A terrible reputation among the "experts" and a stadium that will be filled with the enemy week in and week out.
Yes, we are a shit storm of a team. But we are one of 32 sports organizations where that job is one of the most coveted in all of sports. It takes one guy to fix this. You start by pounding away at the negatives. Use those FA dollars to bring in solid players. You get the owner out of the decision making process with a commitment to the long vision, which would include patience on his part. Then you hire your guys at the coaching spots, draft your guys and you create the culture.
This is not going to be easy, but it takes Spytek having control. Use your resources wisely and keep that goofy f[raiders_icon]cker in the owners box munching on his PF Changs
