The shots people take at Carr's perceived lack of toughness remind me of this situation. Jim Rome was a jackass.
I don't see the need to keep driving in one more stake. Carr repped the laundry well.
Jim Everett never fumbled the football so that he could protect his fall with both hands. I've never seen another football player other than Carr do that at any level, and he did it multiple times.
Carr had his faults but weak at heart wasn't one of them. He bought in whole heartedly every year he played for the Raiders regardless of who the currentcoach was, game plan, defense, play makers and so on. I remember a cartwheel of 2 also.
I also feel it takes a huge heart and mighty courage to, not bend the knee.
Anywhos it's all been said. No need to go on.
The 50 sides of DC comes to an end with his retirement, and I wish him good fortune.
He wasn't a bum, so as for me, I rank him as always a Raider.
He had heart until he heard “BLITZ” and then the yellow ran down his leg ;)
im in the camp that saw a great qb before the leg break and a pale reflection after, enjoy retirement
2016 was a fun year. After that I soured quickly. Something happened prior to the game at Washington that killed him.
But to my credit, I was there at a few games he played and I never saw him lose a game live.

I've never seen another football player other than Carr do that at any level, and he did it multiple times.
I like to think that I watched most of the games that Carr started and I have to admit that I missed the intentional fumbles. I saw the pylon dive turnovers and throw aways on 4th down but never saw him deliberately fumble.
I also saw him make some big throws under duress like when Von Miller was in his face during our win in Denver in 2015. I was at that game and that road win in an ugly game against the eventual Super Bowl champs seemed to be the springboard for the 2016 season.
What is ironic about Derek Carr is that fans from other AFC West teams have expressed respect for his play when he was with the Raiders in the wake of his retirement. Mostly in the comments following various articles I have read over the weekend. The comments from Raider fans are a mixed bag and pretty consistent with what we see on this forum.
I don't believe I have ever seen such a polarizing player in a Raiders uniform. He had a weird career for us but he played during a weird era for the Raiders.

They only had him for two years but they read much like over here. Most think he was overrated and did little for the team, and there are a few who support him undyingly. Derek was what he was. A guy who could make all the throws, but often chose not to. He was a guy who did what he could to avoid contact which resulted in a lot of quick throws for short yardage.
As someone said, if you needed three points to win, he could get you in range, but if you needed six you were probably out of luck. He never lead the league in any category that mattered, and more than one player questioned his leadership.
He should never have been a Raider to begin with. His temperament was not in the spirit of this team. I think he just did not have that killer instinct

Carr is the pretty girl at the bar, whom in fact is no better than a 5, but you have had 7 beers, so you take her home, have a good time, and realize after makeup has been smeared into your pillow she is a 2 at best!
He can just light it up on one drive and then spike it into the ground of 3 consecutive plays, and then right when he is about to score he fumbles it through the end zone, not once, but twice! I think he is probably a good, GOD serving dude, but he should have retired a long time ago.

Sounds like he’s done for good.

Lasting Effect
$50.13 million
The total expected dead cap hit the Saints will absorb for QB Derek Carr over the next two years, according to Spotrac. Carr, 34, announced his retirement Saturday after 11 NFL seasons as he deals with a significant shoulder injury. He signed a four-year, $150 million deal with New Orleans in 2023.
The breakdown of the dead cap hit is $14.56 million in 2025 and $35.67 million in 2026. The lower number for the upcoming season stems from Carr reportedly foregoing the $30 million he was guaranteed. The figures also assume that Carr’s retirement is processed after June 1.
He retires with $205 million in career earnings.

I don't believe I have ever seen such a polarizing player in a Raiders uniform. He had a weird career for us but he played during a weird era for the Raiders.
A lot of support for Carr is directly attributable to his faith. In essence, a lot of folks strongly support him due to his views which in some cases mirror their own.
I’m not particularly religious nor do I object to those who are. What I do point out is those who defend him through that prism and are unable to separate out his football play. Criticism of his play on the field is legitimate, criticism of his willingness to play and toughness, likewise.
His character? I’ve stayed away from that largely as I don’t know him and can’t say for certain. Nor is it applicable IMO.
But to some up he gets a pass from a lot of folks for the reasons outlined. It’s not all but I’ve noticed it among his most vocal supporters, particularly on the Saints forum.
To all- And to reiterate to anyone who wants to read what I wrote in a way other that I did. I’ll say again: I’m not commenting on his faith, his beliefs or anyone else’s. I am commenting on how it’s used to shield him from criticism. And to say it again for the third time: read it again. In a way it’s odd to have to point this out but is what it is I guess.

Srv's post laid things out nicely and makes clear the summation of Carrs career if choosing one word, disappointing.
Wow. They turned on him fast. When the Saints acquired him , the NO fanbase was really excited.
NFL teams need to stop thinking they can "fix" a player. You either have the football acumen or you don't. When he got broken, he became Humpty Dumpty. You cannot fix those kinds of guys. When you cannot master the playbook after months of having the playbook, you are in trouble.
Did I call him out for playing hours upon hours of video games during the off season? You better f[raiders_icon]cking believe I did. You are paid 20 to 50 mil a year to not know your playbook? Get the f[raiders_icon]ck out with that noise. Oh and Darren and David, get the f[raiders_icon]ck off our boards because I know you are still reading this shit. f[raiders_icon]cking posers.

I glance at FB now and again and the last few days one would think DC was the best player in the history of the NFL.
Once retired, I hope to never see the turds name on this page again.
I have enjoyed the banter with his "following" but Im so sick of this mid mediocre facade I'm glad to see him fade away.
Goodbye Fresno Fraud (and his awkward creepy clan)
