Kellen Moore was really careful with prepared words in his press conference and interviews - he allowed for the possibility of keeping or releasing Carr. It will be more of a challenge to get under the cap if they release him. The cap isn't "real" until you push that to the limit and then it's very f[raiders_icon]cking real. It was moronic for them to continue push it to that limit for a meh team.
Yeah I hear the cap is a myth crap a lot. You can dig yourself a hole it takes years to get out of. At some point you have to bite the bullet or it just gets worse

But if you are extending or restructuring guys that you want to move on from because you can't afford to move on then you've taken it too far. And the time to push a bunch into the future is when you have actually had success on the field and just need to push more chips in the middle to finish it off. The Lions and Bills are there now. We are not. The Saints were there when Drew Brees was lighting it up, but it dragged on too long and then they refused to admit it was time to tear it down and they signed their savior Carr.
I’m going to crucified for this I know but my understanding is that Saints are into Carr for $78 mil over the next two years, similar situation like Denver was with Wilson. So if Carr refuses to take a pay cut and Saints release him, he could take the vet minimum and play anywhere like Wilson and get paid by the Saints. Should the Raiders offer Carr a 10 mil or less one year deal, pay the defense, sign a WR and Guard, draft a RB and future QB like Howard or Dart, and let them sit behind Carr for a year who can check down to Bowers and play game manager with an elite defense..
I’m not a Carrdashian by the way, I was in the “I want him gone camp,” just trying to figure out the best way to keep the defense in tact and bolster the trenches while in turn having some semblance of competent QB play at low cost. Carr is not elite, but at the least he is better than Minshew and slightly more mobile than AOC. For a cheap deal, I would consider him as a one year stop gap.
Carr is a turd and fraud. Why would anybody want an impressionable young QB to sit and learn behind him when he has stated "football is not my priority" The turd has turfed throws when the game was on the line to protect his stats. In a press conference he was asked about a horrible call from the refs and he patted his front pocket and said, "I want to keep my money so I wont say a word".
Hes a fraud and not a teammate. He is all about the money and self preservation......
Personally I want a competitor

Wow
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/441 ... -cap-space
NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints are restructuring Derek Carr's contract to open up $30.9 million in 2025 cap space, according to a source on Saturday.
The Saints plan to convert Carr's $30 million base salary and $10 million guaranteed roster bonus to a signing bonus, pushing money to future years and lowering his 2025 cap figure to $20.4 million. Carr's base salary was set to become fully guaranteed Friday.
Restructuring Carr's contract ties the quarterback to the Saints for at least the 2025 season and increases Carr's 2026 cap figure to $69.2 million in the final season of his contract. That means the Saints will likely face questions about his contract again next year.
There is no universe or parallel dimension where Carr is worth almost 70 million a season. They are most likely going to be cutting him but I wonder what that hit will be.

That's what happens when you keep borrowing long term on a player you want to be short term.

Not because they want to be because they have to cap wise.
Seems what the Saints always bank on is the cap going up so they can "plan" for that. i.e. if they cut him next year it won't be as painful. The problem for them with all of this is that the other 31 teams aren't standing still each year and have in almost all cases better cap situations.

Because I go to NO to see the Raiders play when they are down there, the Saints send me corporate emails every so often. Right now that traffic is higher than normal since they are sending me stuff every time they sign someone.
Today, I got an email from the Saints asking me to take a corporate sponsor survey, basically branding stuff and targeted fan demographics. The carrot they dangled out there to get my participation was a signed Derek Carr Jersey. For five minutes of my time, I could win the jersey and help out the Saints organization in one shot. Now, an authentic Saints Carr jersey from the NFL shop runs about 175 bucks, and on EBAY there are listings for Carr signed jerseys for 200 bucks. Which means Carr's signature is worth 25 bucks (or best offer.) Contrast that with Archie Manning, and the first one listed on EBAY they were asking 649 bucks for that one (they would not get that amount) which is three times what Carr lists for. That is all you need to know about how Saints fans view both those guys
Oh and on the NFL shop site? Carr's jersey (first one I spotted) is way down the first page, and even after the "your custom name and number"
