that becomes a fine situation. If he is using the trade request to get a new deal, he would play. If he really wants out, I think he will not suit up.DrDUne wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 7:48 am I give Meyers credit for continuing to practice during this time - would he suit up and play week 1 without a new contract?

If he wants to be paid a bit shy of 1 million per game, yes.DrDUne wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 7:48 am I give Meyers credit for continuing to practice during this time - would he suit up and play week 1 without a new contract?

True, unless the occasional back soreness flares up. He doesn’t strike me as that kind of player, however.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:28 am If he wants to be paid a bit shy of 1 million per game, yes.

Part of me thought they would’ve traded him off for good player by now. Hate to see this be another Raider Let somebody walk situation.

I understand injuries without a guaranteed contract is the problem, but selfish me still wants him to suit up.
I think the Raiders want to see how the young guys in Thornton and Bech develop and if they think they can replace Meyers production, he will not get a big payday from the Raiders.
They invested a high draft pick in Bech and Thornton who is also a rookie has looked good this off-season according to reports.
The Raiders already have Bowers who is the #1 receiving target on the team, so paying Meyers a big contract is more of a luxury, when the team needs help with the oline and defense still.

About 600 K per week during the season for him. IIRC the 11 million salary is paid in 18 equal weekly installments.SkullCrusher wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:28 am If he wants to be paid a bit shy of 1 million per game, yes.

But he does have a contract. No one held a gun to his head to make him sign it. What would happen to you if you reneged on fulfilling a contract you signed? Hes lucky the CBA imposes a lighter punishment for holding out, as opposed to what the result of a civil suit would be.Raider727 wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:27 pm I understand injuries without a guaranteed contract is the problem, but selfish me still wants him to suit up.

Meyers isnt good enough to hold out. The best thing he can do for his value is go out and play well for his next contract. Now again if he just wanted out at all costs sure, but again he doesnt have the importance to likely do that successfully.

Maybe The Raiders should just guarantee his 2025 salary and worry about a new contract (or not) during the off-season.

That certainly would not be a huge concession, but what about the precedent? Once one team does it, then every other player in his last year wants it.RickRyb wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 1:57 pm Maybe The Raiders should just guarantee his 2025 salary and worry about a new contract (or not) during the off-season.

Maybe.... but, how many players are actually worth it? Meyers is worth it.... IMO.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:09 pm That certainly would not be a huge concession, but what about the precedent? Once one team does it, then every other player in his last year wants it.

As a vested veteran, if he's on the roster for game 1 then his salary is automatically guaranteed.RickRyb wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 1:57 pm Maybe The Raiders should just guarantee his 2025 salary and worry about a new contract (or not) during the off-season.

Any chance Spytek is chasing J Simmons or Peppers (w/ Chinn at nickel?)... or Clowney, etc. and that affects our cap picture - so he can't make a firm/increased offer to Jakobi at the moment, until the dust settles?

Our cap picture is good enough that no signing of any player would impact the ability to extend Meyers. It's pretty clearly just a value gap between what the team thinks he's worth and what his contract demands are.Bowl Cut Mark Davis wrote: Tue Sep 02, 2025 9:31 am Any chance Spytek is chasing J Simmons or Peppers (w/ Chinn at nickel?)... or Clowney, etc. and that affects our cap picture - so he can't make a firm/increased offer to Jakobi at the moment, until the dust settles?
