Things will be interesting if the Raiders don't actually trade Derek Carr. Raiders will have to owe Derek Carr $40 million in a week unless they cut Derek Carr . I don't know if the trade Carr within that time frame if they have to pay $40 million in guaranteed money. As I said, it is probably best to cut Derek instead of paying $40 million. Vinny is not a very credible source to me but if it becomes official that would be fine.

First thing, he's got guaranteed money due to him if he's still on THAT contract on February 15th.
But the question really becomes when he gets it, and who pays it.
Because trades cannot officially happen until the new league year, the Raiders would have to carry him on the roster until March, at which point he can be traded - whether on the current contract or one he agrees to rework upon joining the new team.
It does not appear that it's in any sort of immediate monetary delivery, only that he's guaranteed to get it. Typically, payments are made in installments during the game weeks, as I recall, and he would be paid by SOME team. Again, that's assuming it's the same contract.
Now, Raiders can cut him prior to February 15th, at which point he wouldn't get paid any more from the Raiders, but the $5mm bonus he got last year would accelerate to our Dead Cap this year, and he'd be free to sign wherever, on a new contract.
My guess is, considering there are teams that have been willing to meet a trade, both in terms of compensation to Raiders and to Carr, that he will "technically" be on the Raiders roster come February 16th.
The FA QB market is for shit this year, and I'd bet that someone would bite the bullet and actually trade for him at some point, even if the Raiders call the bluff and hold on to him.
Or, I may be totally wrong about how this contract is written, or how willing Mark/Z is willing to wait and see

The Raiders aren't going to play chicken with a freight train for a 3rd round pick.

With the money on the line this will not be a agreement in principle. There will be deal consummated and signed off on all parties, or he walks a free man.
Trade compensation will fluctuate based on the amount of Carr’s cap we’re asked to eat. The more we eat the higher the comp.
Not sure how to read this. I’d certainly go on the visit, but I wouldn’t agree to anything if I’m Carr. I wonder if his family goes with him.
I assume a new contract with substantially more guaranteed money might help to move this along. Remember no trade is finalized until the new league year
We could always take a couple of their high quality but high cost defensive contracts off their hands.

This would act of a show of good faith and insurance for all three parties.

If we get stuck with any of it though we better be getting a really good deal. We could cut him for 5.8 Million which is peanuts. Carr cant faze the Raiders Organization. His brothers may be thinking up grandiose plans but never fear, The Raiders have deep roots and know a hustle when they see it. The Carr brothers are all straight up losers at everything they do, trying to outsmart the Raiders Organization is going to backfire.
If Carr agrees to a trade, can Carr or the team he is being traded to still back out?
yes, but highly unlikely
And yes, the Saints can fit in Carr, they would need to redo a few contracts to clear the space but it can be done
