So I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to these contracts, so how does this work ? the deadline is feb 14 when Carr’s contract comes due so they have to trade him by than or pay him but any trade won’t be finalized until march so if they trade him don’t the Raiders have to pay him anyway on feb 14 during that one month wait till the trade is finalized ?
They would be on the hook for it but im guessing they dont have to pay it until the official off season starts.
I don’t care if you hate Carr, love Carr, or anything in between - Carr has trade value.
What may not be trade-able is his contract. If this front office fails to get anything for Carr, it’s another (and perhaps their biggest) blunder.
Derek Carr will start week 1 for an NFL team. His contract, proposed and agreed to by this front office, is the issue. This is on them.
Last off-season, Jarrett Stidham had trade value. Tyree Gillespie had trade value. Trayvon Mullen and Bryan Edwards had trade value. Releasing a starting QB for nothing would be a gaffe this front office has to answer for.
Their biggest blunder was giving him a no trade clause. Anything after that is just add on.

3 Days after SB isn't a lot of time.
If thet said 3 weeks or 3 months after the SB would have been much more strategic.

Saints has been my projection and it remains.
I don’t know if it will be a pick or a player since the golden boy Payton ruined their cap.
I’d take Lattimore

I have coworkers telling me that Carr is a great QB. They pull up stats online...say "Look! He is the best Quarterback they ever had!" And absolutely, will NOT listen to what I know. I ask back "Have you watched every game he has played for the Raiders? Because I have. You don't understand."
"When did he ever have a true #1 WR? How many systems has he been through?" they ask me.
I concede to them the organization has been dysfunctional. But the things about Carr that you cannot see in that Skills challenge?? WE Raiderfans know.
It's just so irritating.

I'm sure there had to be some type of compromise in order for Carr to sign essentially a one year prove it deal. That seems like the compromise
The contract does indeed look to be a compromise. It looks like neither side really got what they wanted, hence as you note comprise.
I have to wonder if Carr knew his days were numbered when he signed it. Some will disagree but he doesn't strike me as all that confident. He puts up the facade of it but really isn't. Could be wrong.
I think Carr would be a good fit with the Seahawks.
Pete Carroll would actually be the perfect coach for carr. They could be super besties

If Carr is still on the roster after Feb 15 then his salary in 2023 and a bit of the money in 2024 are guaranteed - so he'd get paid by the team even if cut. Those amounts are paid by whoever he plays for in those seasons, once they actually start playing games, so if he's traded then the Raiders don't pay it but they are at risk for it until he's traded and it is counted on the Raiders' salary cap until he's traded.

Dump his ass, pay the minimal hit and move on. He’s loving all the attention knowing he’s in control. Raiders screwed the pooch on this one. If we get anything at all I’d be surprised.
Raiders could even agree to pay a portion of his salary. As in whatever the hit may be if we just cut him.
