Webb offers just as much risk as McDaniel does. Even Kubiak does, but IMO, less, as he’s done very well in Seattle. In Minnesota and Nawleans he was a middling OC, but he had Cousins in Minnesota, who was decent, but nothing great. In Nawleans he had Cap’n Checkdown and Rattler. Not much there, either.DanKD wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:47 am Kubiak is my #1 but i dont mind Mcdaniel among the other options potentially. Hed be a big loss for the Chargers. I dont think Payton misses a beat if Webb leaves, and thats not meant as a dig on Webb

I thought Kubiak did a solid job in new orleans. We all know Carr isnt very good but when he went down along with all their other injuries, they had nothing to work with on offense. I think hes been fantastic getting even more out of Darnold than Kevin Oconnell and his players seem to love him.Oaktown Superman wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:53 am Webb offers just as much risk as McDaniel does. But yes he and everyone else we are looking at has risk

I agree, but still think we’d be considerably more attractive with the 7th than we would have been the past years.DanKD wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:53 am Maybe but lets be clear if everything else was the same but we were picking 7th with no path to a top young qb, the job is not near as attractive. Mendoza is the biggest factor which makes the job more attractive.

The dawn of a new era deserves the dawn of a new HC and staff not a recently failed scwirmy hipster doofus retread.
No to McDaniel. He'll lose the locker room in a year.
I see him as the Josh McDaniels type. Great OC but not a leader of men.
Strongly pass because I dont like his face. Opinion

Can they hire Kubiak next week if/when they interview him, and not make it official until his season ends…provided he’s coaching in the SB?

I think there are guys who may view the Raiders as the best job available. And guys who think it's closer to the worst because of the constant turnover. There's a valid rationale for either view, but if someone thinks it's a bad job then they're not the right guy to hire anyway. You want the guy who relishes the opportunity to work with a rookie QB and a clean slate, not the guy who's afraid of that and only wants to ride Josh Allen's coattails to the playoffs year 1.

Yes, you can announce the intention to hire.Oaktown Superman wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:57 am Can they hire Kubiak next week if/when they interview him, and not make it official until his season ends…provided he’s coaching in the SB?

I don’t know if he’d lose the lockerroom or not. Miami was 2-7 and went on a four game winning streak.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:57 am The dawn of a new era deserves the dawn of a new HC and staff not a recently failed scwirmy hipster doofus retread.

I am pretty sure that it will be Klint Kubiak. Chris Shula looks like a good fit in Pittsburgh. I am not as high on McDaniels as many of you but bringing him after he agreed to take the Chargers OC gig would make things interesting. Al would have approved.

This I dont agree with. I have my concerns about him but his team did not give up on him nor did he lose the team. They went 6-4 in their last 10 games with crap at QB.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:57 am The dawn of a new era deserves the dawn of a new HC and staff not a recently failed scwirmy hipster doofus retread.

To quote Mickey Goldmill (after I find out they interviewed Kubiak next week), “What are we waiting for?”

Not to mention that he doesn't get to build the roster.DanKD wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:59 am This I dont agree with. I have my concerns about him but his team did not give up on him nor did he lose the team. They went 6-4 in their last 10 games with crap at QB.

100%. We need someone with enough confidence in themselves to know theyll be successful with a top young qb and 100 million in cap room. (Doest mean they will be but they should absolutely believe fully they will)chucker wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 8:58 am I think there are guys who may view the Raiders as the best job available. Tua got concussed quite a bit and is oft injured. Some of his concussion issues happened under Flores tenure, iirc.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 9:03 am![]()
