For a guy who said that he was all about the team, and professed his love for the Raiders and his teammates, when push came to shove, he was really just all about himself.

IF he had stuck around and really did his best to help Stiddy, I would have had to have some respect for the man. In that his actions would have proved that yes, he was all about his teammates and wanting them to succeed even if he was not a factor in the game.

While I may not have liked his play on the field, I would have respected the man. But, Carr left the team, left Stiddy, and I am left not respecting him as a QB and as a man.

But this does not surprise me. I have always felt him to be a hollow phony. Someone who goes about trying to meet other people's expectations but really has no core. He is an other directed human being and not a self directed one. So when push comes to shove there is no character or core there driving him to do what is right for the community (team) around him. Once his own personal self interest was not meant, he simply shuffled off the expectations of others and went home to whine.

In short, he did not truly love his teammates because it was in every fiber of his being to do so, but rather simply because it was expected of him and well it is easy to shuffle of those expectations when you are not getting what you want.
Agree with all of this. And sticking around to help Stidham is not just helping the guy who replaced him, it also gives his buddies Adams, Renfrow and others the best chance to succeed in the last two games.

The "not wanting to be a distraction" thing is trash. If he sucked it up and acted like a pro, he wouldn't have been more of a distraction in the facility than he was away from the facility. The level of distraction beyond what we had anyway would be Carr's choice based on how he handled himself.
I don't know what his psyche is. I'd have hoped he would have gone to work and helped his team mates out after being benched, but that was not the case. I mean I didn't expect him to coach up Stid, but he could have been in the film room assisting in the breakdowns of the 9ers and Chiefs defenses.
But this the guy put on a pedestal for having impeccable character! :cuss:
I've always liked Kirwan but haven't heard anything from him in a long time.
Kirwan's gotta be in his mid-late 70s by now.

The companion DVD for his book Take Your Eye Off the Ball is pure brilliance, though: A couple of hours of an actual NFL coach walking you through what each position group does and what to look for. It's where I learned the difference between zone and angle blocking, the importance of post-snap reads, how to quickly see if the CBs are in man or zone coverage, etc. Highly recommended if you can find a copy. The book is good too, but the DVD is just awesome.
When Palmer was benched the final game of the 2012 season, he wrote up a bunch of notes for Pryor that included the coverages #2 was likely to see and what audibles to use.

But Palmer was a leader. Carr is not.
I pointed it out perhaps in this thread, there was an example of the right way to handle this situation just this year: Matt Ryan

Benched not once but twice and handled it like a professional.

Carr? Not so much.

And we still get people saying “the Raiders did him dirty.”

GTFO with that “millennial crybaby way of thinking”. How about do your f[raiders_icon]cking job or ride the pine. It’s that simple.
Unfortunately for me, that showed what kind of leader he was. Makes you wonder what his teammates thought.
I think you kind of saw it in the interviews with Jacobs and Waller and Maxx after it was announced he was being benched. It didn't seem to faze them and seemed lime it was almost a relief to a coupke of them
