But...... damn near anyone is better than what we have. How does signing and trading a 3rd for a mediocre QB make it okay? I'm sorry.... I am just floored with this decision... not at all in a good way.
If we start winning and he looks good, the we gave up X vanishes pretty quick. But I get your point, it is far from the most ideal. But we are fairly desperate with fairly slim pickens and obviously our HC feels comfortable with knowing what he has in Geno. Give me 4000, 25TD, 10 Ints and you did your part.
Didn’t see this coming, but he has a SPECIAL relationship with Carol and sometimes, all it takes is someone to believe in you, to make you unlock yourself and Carol unlocked Geno
Good move and it puts someone that doesn’t play pussy-ball. Can actually throw the ball down the field. Can scramble a little, can put points on the board, etc etc. good move.
"a special relationship"?...considering this move, I'm guessing that Geno must have some pictures of Carroll in a hotel with a goat !

It will be interesting to see if a bidding war now emerges for Darnold.

Over reaction .com is exploding again. We got a solid QB for a 3rd rd pick and the sky is falling? Not saying he is Mahomes but he has averaged 4k yards over the last 3 years. I feel he is way better than the other vet QBs available. And bitching about his contract before he even comes to a deal is classic.
Who did we miss out on with this deal ? Fields ?

Like I said.... I have a few pours of bourbon in me right now. I might see things in a different light in the morning. But, Geno Smith was like the farthest thing in my mind for this team. It's like....... why not not just roll with what we have for no more money and not giving up quality picks insrtead of 40+ million a year for a medicre QB that may or may not play well? I'm just.......................
Unfortunately there will be hysteria around here when the numbers are released. Middle tier QBs that can stay healthy and show consistency make 40 mil, that’s where the market is. Fortunately the cap goes up and hopefully it will be structured in a way that we eat more now than later so that in 2 years it won’t look bad at all. If Tua and Lawrence are 50+ Mil QBs I think Geno will get 40 no matter how crazy it sounds.
I hear you. I just wonder how often the “as crazy as it sounds” contracts work out to be bargains as opposed to mistakes.
I’ll be rooting wholeheartedly for Geno to be the former!

In typical Raider fashion, there are some justifying this but you all know damn well that if this was any team in our division, y'all would be laughing your asses off. For once I beg of you, take the blinders off and you will see that this is a HORRIFIC move. Giving up a 3rd round pick for a 35 year old mediocre (at best) QB who is looking for (and will likely get) a long term deal at 40 mil a year! Mind you, the 2nd horrific move this FA period so far.
Imagine getting excited over Geno Smith. You think the Seahawks are regretting this? They are literally laughing right now. I was 100% off the Justin Fields train but I damn sure would of taken him over this trash. Least he would of been basically free with a smidge of excitement.
So instead of drafting Geno Smith, we trade for Geno Smith instead.
No, he isn't.
Your position confirms this was the right move by the team
It brings me comfort.
Be honest............ do you like it?
I'm not mad or meltdown mode like some on here but I'm not gonna celebrate naked or anything. It is what it is. It's an obvious upgrade. No one in their right mind can deny that. The qb market was utter garbage. If he was a fa, he'd probably be at or near the top of the list and he at least has a track record unlike Darnold
Like I said, I don't mind the move and it upgrades the team so I'm good with it. What qb that is available, is a clear upgrade over Geno since alot are up in arms over this move?
Darnold with one good season and then shit in his hands and started clapping when it counted during the last two games of the season? He looked like the qb the Jets cut during those games
Rodgers, Cousins, Wilson who are washed or weren't going to be fits?
Fields or any other of that garbage tier? Can anyone name a qb that's going to come in and give solid qb play like Geno will?

Now the Raiders can concentrate on a running game, we suck! maybe replace all pro Josh Jacobs who we tossed away because it isn't Zamir White. Solidify the O line, get a top-notch receiver wide receiver. We need D backfield help, linebacker help, D line has question marks last but, not least, bench strength. Geno will be ok and, now we don't have to draft Sanders thank God but, will pick one up at some point for sure.
